Audio Technica AT LP60 problem

Please forgive me for the noobness of this, but I've had this at lp60 for a couple months now, and it's the first turntable I've bought and had to maintain myself. Today I went to sample a record into ableton and the sound that came off the record was very quiet, harsh and there was no bass. I tried both of the preamp options even though I already had it on phono, which if i'm not mistaken would boost the signal. As I said, this is my first turntable I've had to maintain myself, would replacing the preamp be too much hassle? I'm assuming it's the preamp because I plugged it into a home system and everything was fine. I can't use the home system to sample records though, because the amp is built into a subwoofer so the output from that doesn't put out any bass because it's already coming out of the sub :u:

How exactly are you running the sound into ableton? RCA to Audio interface?
