Limit sub vibrations from monitors
My Adam A5Xs' sub content is irritating my new roommate. With me playing plenty of subby music and the walls being paper thing, this is an issue.
Could dekstands limit the vibrations traveling from my monitors to the floor and make having me as a roommate more bearable?

Re: Limit sub vibrations from monitors
You thought about using monitor pads.

Re: Limit sub vibrations from monitors
Are you sure its not just that you are playing the music too loud in general before you blow money on pads or stands? I have never owned AX5s...but typically five inch monitors dont have a lot of "sub" (I know, I know semantics...). I'm not sure this is gonna solve your problems...but it might get rid of some resonances you didnt know you will dealing with.
I bought some Auralex pads for my speaker stands as they are cheapo metal stands to reduce resonance. Even with the pads when I play bass heavy, "pro" tunes at even a reasonable volume I still get resonance through the pads. And you know...Auralex is supposed to be the tits or whatever...
When I lived with roommates or had "wall neighbors" in appartments I solved the problem by starting at 0 volume and turned my music up until they could hear it through the wall or until it was annoying to them...had the roommate or neighbor on the phone letting me know when to mark the volume. I then marke this spot on my volume knob and never went past that point during the agreed upon hours (usually between 10pm-10am).
Worked out a good compromise.

this. i have a giant ikea desk which is basically one thin slab of wood so i could actually feel my arm vibrating pretty pretty distinctly, and after watching mastering videos and learning about how your desk resonates (especially a desk like mine) i went and got thesefragments wrote:Are you sure its not just that you are playing the music too loud in general before you blow money on pads or stands? i had them on pads before (ordered them w/my monitors) and that wasn't cutting it. the iso-l8rs probably reduced the desk vibrations by about 85% and put the speakers at a perfect ear level for me (this is very adjustable). one of the best purchases i've made for my setup without question.
Re: Limit sub vibrations from monitors
There's not a lot you can do really. Nothing for little money that is.
I'm in the same situation and I just make do with headphones and regular short checks on the speakers. For listening to music I just cut some bass, if you want to feel some bass when listening to music at home you can't have roommates
Often at listening position the bass is quite a lot lower in level than in corners of your room, or even somewhere else in the house.
The low frequencies will find a way to annoy your neighbour.

On the topic of acoustic pads and wooden desks - I also use this combo and it's not ideal by any means, I still get large resonances of bass at louder levels.
