How are you going to be keeping cool...

Post by outbound » Mon May 19, 2014 12:06 pm

...... this summer in the studio?

even with my window open it's like a sauna in here so looking into some fan options, anyone tried any that are quite low noise? I understand there's always going to be noise but I'd take a constant hum that can actually cool me down over the random noises from outside and the fact it isn't doing much to keep me cool.

Well. We have had two night time frost warnings in the past seven days and almost turned the furnace on last night. Apparently yhe question is how will I keep warm...but seriously my brother has a rather low noise tower fan that has a digital thermometer in it...turns off when the room reaches a specified temp. Also Dyson makes some quiter fans...airblades I want to say?

Current studio is cold when it's hot and warm when it's cold. Pretty perfect, as long as I keep the door shut. Not sure about the new place though, might be a furnace.

I wish I could move my gear to the basement for the summer. Its stays like an icebox even during hotter days...but its also a damp basement and we get water sometimes : /

If I had to choose I woud take a studio that is cold more often than hot. I can put on a sweater...but I can only take off so many clothes....

Funny you use that word, I actually called a track Icebox after the refreshing coolness of my studio when I moved here

my room is impossible to do anything in during summer

sun is on it all day and it just collects the heat

winter is my time

Living in the north west of England, I don't really need to worry about any sort of heat, cause there's never any. The weather has been nice the last couple of days though.

I think i only get like 4 days of sun a year in Seattle, so not too worried about it. Even then the sun doesnt really bother my room. Although i do have to worry about keeping the widows open with all the moisture in the air.

On a side note, i used to know a guy who used to put his tower on bags of ice. Wasnt very bright.

I've got central air conditioning in the house so I'm all set. During the summer it's perfectly cool inside all the time. :W:

Silent air conditioning is a bitch though. Some studios pay thousands and have huge pipes to keep the noise down.

I've got a little man-cave in the top room of our house that I've got my PC set up in and my god, the last few days have been ridiculous in terms of heat... The only redeeming feature is that it's got two skylights on either side of the room (the walls are slanted on either side) and I mix on headphones so the background noise doesn't bother me :) so I can get a nice airflow going in the interim...

Mannn I complain now but that reminds me of when I lived with the rents, was in a converted attic at the top and yeah the sun just used to pour down. Just thinking about it is already making me feel a lot better about my situation hahaha

Yeah, I get close to the skylight facing the sun and my days, could singe a hand... Lovely place to write music but jeez is it unreal in terms of temperature, even at night as well :( hehehe, glad I'm helping you feel better either way ;)

I have to find a solution to this as well, my AKG's make my head hot at the coolest of times, pretty unbearable in the summer!
