...like, a new stylistic trend or emerging musical 'movement' - and you had to name it - how would you do it so as not to be an utter tnuc, fuck up that new sound, or anything else seriously negative (I'm thinking of Witch House, Chillstep, etc.)?

I know the stock answer is: don't name it, names are for ______, blah blah blah...

but if you had to, how would you?

hard to say without actually hearing this 'new sound'

can't really give it a proper name without hearing it 1st, but typically you would name it after the feeling or imagery it evokes in your mind, the place it started or perhaps use an onomatopoeia.
Of course, it's also popular just to combine names or add a new descriptive word in front of an already existing genre.

coming up with genre names without the music 1st is pointless because you could literally say anything you want. if you come up with a random name and then try to create music to fit it, i guess that's a different story.

in the unlikely event that somebody had a gun to my head,
