I'd like that as much as the next guy but it's a complete logical fallacy to think there's only one mafia, which in turn might suggest that one of the mafias is threatening the others by way of the pope in this case.
The vatican itself is put in place so members of the catholic church (and other notable italian figures) can't be excommunicated.

That's part of what I said. If an italian priest fucks a boy in italy he gets moved to the vatican city (state) and tried in their court with their judges instead.
It's so fucking disturbing.
Berlusconi takes a lot of international focus away from how sick it all is.
More babylon than babylon

so the pope just excommunicated all of Calabria and Sicilly? because I don't think you can actually draw a clear line between "mafia members" and "non-members" in some parts, can you?

This really is the church flexing their pimp hand...considering they are the original mafia.
This is strictly a political move fo sho. The pope is just a figure head like the president...Im sure alot of the guys who vote and are really in charge have no problems taking all the tithes from the mafia.

Pope: 2% of Clergy Are Pedophiles
Pope Francis has offered an estimate on "the level of pedophilia in the Church,"
Sky News reports: He puts it at 2%, basing his information on aides' figures. "That 2% includes priests and even bishops and cardinals," the pope tells
La Repubblica newspaper of Italy. "Others, more numerous, know (about the problem) but keep quiet. They punish without giving the reason," he says, per the
BBC.
The figure would suggest that some 8,000 out of 414,000 clergy members worldwide are pedophiles, the BBC notes. Francis compares the issue to "leprosy" and intends to "confront it with the severity it demands." In the interview, the pontiff also discusses the possibility of priests marrying. Celibacy, he notes, wasn't instituted until "900 years after Our Lord's death." He adds: "This needs time, but there are solutions, and I will find them."

Maybe, um, get rid of the celibacy thing?

I might be playing Devil's (um..) Advocate here, but has anyone actually managed to demonstrate a link between celibacy and child abuse? Celibacy is surely a daft idea, but I have a feeling it just leads to all manner of sexual behaviour flying under the radar - more priests are having secret adult affairs than polishing the altar boy's pipes and the vast majority of paedophiles aren't celibate to start with.
I bet you'd get roughly similar figures for any profession celibate or otherwise that's in regular, caring contact with kids... teachers, social workers... I'd even wager the odd kids TV presenter!

Climate change deniers to Pope: C'mon dude! It's all fake!
Oh, and there are like 4 Catholic climate change deniers vying for the Republican presidential nomination.
You'd laugh if it didn't make ya cry.
