Honestly, I'm not into battle rap as much as I used to be as I think its turned into some WWE diva shit (KOTD i'm looking at you), but there are some real nice battlers out there still. However, Eminem's "Total Slaughter" PPV event is tonight, with Joe Budden vs Hollow da Don, and Murda Mook vs Loaded Lux as the main battles. Both of these battles have the potential to be bonafied classics, and I think that its a great step for battle rap to reach the mainstream markets.
There is no footage of Joe Budden battling, but he is one of the most respected lyricists in the game and is apparently a New Jersey battle legend. But Hollow is imo, the best battler I've seen out of this generation, period.
Mook vs Lux will be sick too. Their battle tonight may not be as classic as their first one, but I tihnk it might be close. Mook has been a favorite of mine for years so I hope he wins and gets his credibility back (considering half these new dudes jacked his style).
Anyways, the shit starts at 8 est, who else is watching? I'll be updating later.
Post classic battles, clashes, etc

Yes, it is pretty much spoken word.
Im sure people still battle on beats, but battling started on the street corners without music - plus its easier for the crowd to understand whats being said. I could go into how the battle cypher was also ingrained into african american culture far before hip hop but I'm too lazy.

Don't they just take turns spitting pre-meditated bars at each other? Until a winner. How is a winner chosen? Do they have a panel a la X Factor
