If you had a teenage kid who was becoming a socially inept..

..outcast part of an oblivious subculture, what would you as a parent do?
Think fedoras, bronies, atheist wariors, etc.
You could say that kids, especially teenagers, should be given room to develop their personality. But when they're so fucking dorky, but oblivious to it, that they're opening themselves up to some harsh bullying and a distorted view of how they are perceived, wouldn't it be good if their parents had a good parent-to-son conversation about how their kid wishes to convey themselves to their peers and how they actually come across? What roll do parents play? Wouldn't it be better for the child's self-worth, in the long run, if they adapted somewhat in their teen years to avoid social problems when they're grown up?
Some parents are as oblivious as their kids are, but I'll assume they're in the minority.
This is a serious thread, btw.

Honestly, I couldn't imagine how one of my kids could become a fedora. But if him or her became a fedora, then I would probably cut off all spending money so that they couldn't afford the fedora lifestyle.

On the real, i don't think this kind of person appears from nowhere i think their upbringing will have a huge impact on their fedoraism.
So if you have a teenager that is a fedora then i doubt you would be the kind of person who realises/thinks its a problem, as you will likely be of the fedora persuasion yourself.

From what I've seen, a lot of fedora wearing kids don't have strong relationships with their parents.

Allow them to be who they are. That is your lesson as a parent.
Give them the tools that they need to explore themselves and let them make their own decisions as they get older.

But its not just fedora types, but any socially oblivious subculture. Often their parents don't like it or look down on it,

I see, I wouldn't know.
I imagine that with fedoras in particular, their lifestyle is the product of maybe a mother who is withholding of love and affection and who is the head of the household (rather than sharing that status with the man.. assuming heterosexual relationships here).
But the thread is not just about "fedora" types, though. Bronies, etc, whatever. Any subculture that is known for being socially sheltered and unaware. Shouldn't there be a point where the parent says "look you think you're cool, but you're not. Doing things to fit in are not a crime. Society has certain standards and you'd be better off conforming to some them and find other ways to channel your individuality. Because the bullying will hurt and you'll be disdadvantaged as an adult"

Adults are one thing, but wouldn't teenagers benefit of some honest but well-intended guidance?

yeah although i think if a kids brought up properly then they wouldn't be apart of a socially oblivious subculture, unless they have autism or the like and in which case i doubt much a parent could say would make a difference.

Absolutely give them guidance, but also accept them for who they are.
