I didnt really know how to word the title but basically ive been playing around with making basses and ive kinda gotten to the point where i can begin making a bit more complicated stuff and throw macros all over the place inside massive to have a ton of modulation going on all at once, and not just use the lfos that are in massive but more make my own custom shape.

Im getting some pretty cool sounds but one thing im noticing is that with all the modulation going on, volume will be at different levels within the modulation when the volume is automated at all. Heres what i mean -

this is just something i was messing around with (honestly dont even know what kind of bass this really is - maybe neuro?), the second half is the original notes and patch that i bounced and the first little bit is a little pattern that i chopped up and mixed around and what not.

Im not sure how clear it is to you guys but i can really tell that certain parts are louder while other parts are more quiet. Is this something that i just have to use a compressor to kind of level it out? Or how would i really go about improving this? And is this really even that big of a deal? because i feel like you wouldnt want something like this in a mix

And in the case that i would have to compress it would i be able to compress everything all the same or would i have to compress the more quiet parts differently or...?

If you really, REALLY wanted to, you could cut the quiet parts and level them all manually.
However, I would just fiddle around with a compressor until you get something nice. I think Ableton's glue compressor would work well, or Fruity Limiter's mastering preset if you use FL. Essentially, you want a compressor that makes quiet things loud, but doesn't make the loud things louder.
Then again, assuming that it's all being filtered (since it seems pretty neuro), a compressor might parts that are meant to be quiet (like where a highpass cuts most of the sound) louder than it should sound naturally. If you're really going for that typical neuro sound, keeping the dynamics in the bass wouldn't be all that bad.

Well why would you make those "soft" peaks louder? If you do that then you will loose all that modulating phaesy stuff and it just will a brick will with louder highend.

You can try volume automate stuff out and do share peaks so its kinda like a reese stab, or you can further process the bass. Try detunings it a bit more so the phase it a bit faster, do stuff to only the mids since the high end is already present and make sure to keep the low end clean and fat.

One of my videos, its pretty length and the end bass is quite but it shows you how to further process a bass and turn it into something completely different. I also talk about some volume automation stuff which will also be helpful.

Try also mess with pitchbends, not sure what day you're in but in ableton its fairly easy.

I guess what i should probably do first would be to add it into a bit of a mix with some nice drums. Ive never really messed with neuro like basses so i just wasnt too sure if the volume thing would be too big of deal - not being able to hear the quieter parts over other things within the mix. But ill definitely check out that vid it might help a lot. i checked it out a little bit but i didnt have a full half hour at the time but i saw the end bit where you said you kinda wanna keep the frequencies level and even. Thats probably whatll ill go do is mess around with eqing and maybe a bit more compressing. but when i get the time ill definitely check out that video. thanks for the link man!
