"From September 2014 we will be launching a sub-label called ‘81’. It will be committed to releasing the most up-front underground music, monthly, digitally, and with a ltd vinyl run."
To compliment this we are starting a bimonthly club night of the same name. This commences on Wednesday 10th September @ olso night club, hackney.

This would make sense to me, if they were putting new artists on this label then maybe bringing them onto swamp if they were received well. It's just the same names but saving on the vinyl pressing costs.

It always smacks of cynicism when labels do that. Like here are tunes we want to make money off but don't want to incur the cost of a 1000 vinyl run.

^ those last two posts are spot on
Re: 81 - new label from the people who brought you Swamp 81!
poor move. I was getting gassed for a bit until I saw their release schedule. how is that stuff any different from what they've been doing with swamp81 until now? could've just said "we want the artists to get the (financial) recognition they deserve so we decided to make all swamp releases available on digi formats aswell" instead of chatting breeze about "upfront underground music". Pinch dedicated a few words to the upfrontness of tech house in his latest RA interview and I think he nailed it.
oh btw rip vinyl.

Yeah releasing the back catalogue might have been a stronger move imo.

tbh I think it works for them. The camp is pretty active and new stuff is always getting played on rinse and at raves, this is a way for them to put things out quicker and probably without the pressure of having to do dedicated artwork for each release.

Solid tunes lined up, no point getting shirty about a press release.

^^^ they will still be releasing "limited vinyl" though, so they won't be able to cut corners regarding their schedule. all the tunes listed are fairly old aswell. I can't imagine them releasing more or faster than swamp has done in the past.

the point of a press release is to communicate and generate a response.
they communicated, some on here responded. I'm sure the house section will show more enthusiasm.

Swamp have never averaged a release a month, I don't think it would be too hard for a monthly label to release more frequently.Jurkhands wrote:^^^ they will still be releasing "limited vinyl" though, so they won't be able to cut corners regarding their schedule. all the tunes listed are fairly old aswell. exactly. Swamp have said (a couple of years back) they wanted to release a plate every three weeks. we all now what came of it. and I doubt things will be any different with 81.

Re: 81 - new label from the people who brought you Swamp 81!
You could look at this as an attempt to do that though. Going digital means no more pressing plant hold ups stopping you from getting the releases out on time and the limited aspect makes it financially more viable than 1000's of 180g pressings
