I'm hooking my TR-8 up to Live 9 via USB. It works, but is it possible to sync the TR-8 with Live so when I press play on the TR-8 or Live the other one starts playing.

At the moment I'm having to record the audio because of the sync problem I can't solve.

Any ideas?

Does the TR-8 do MIDI over USB? Or just audio over USB?

Both audio and midi. But the documentation you get with it is very sparse.
