Promotional Tips

Anyone have any tips on getting started as far as SC followers and FB likes without buying ads? I post on Google+ often. I give feedback in the feedback forum and am working toward being able to post however, I'm looking for more than feedback. I need listeners and fans and playing live shows aren't an option. So I seek fans via the internet. I know it can be done. People do it all the time. Any advice would be uch appreciated.

WaveForm wrote:RexPopuli ยป Hey, Lately soundcloud has been flooded with people who use cloudkillers or purchase bot's/fake accounts.
cloudkillers They mine comments and followers which do absolutely nothing to help expand your knowledge and sound design techniques but to only get you loads of almost 80% useless comments. People purchase luck and points for basically fake soundcloud comments which are technically real. (The I rub your back you rub mine, when all it is is kids who are looking for comments and followers in the wrong place and truly do not earn them) You comment on a track, then someone comments on yours but they technically do not mean it most of the time since, their only their to get their own comments.
I myself, a veteran producer look down upon anyone who uses this.
This is why a'lot of people on soundcloud with terrible music have loads and loads of comments and followers. I've also witnessed people release tracks who don't know how to make a properly structured song and 7 days later have 50,000 plays. I've witnessed people who mix pretty lights and other dubstep tracks together and call them their own on CloudKillers and they brag about it.
(I got more comments then you- you suck) (I got more followers)
Avoid any site like that, You can build better comments and followers posting on Facebook Event Pages like Producers of America, or Ravers United and such. I would target the Raver Event pages were people who just rave in general are following. This- you'l get atleast listens and if they wanna comment they can, maybe even follow.
Or you can try getting on soundcloud Electronic Networks to advertise and post your music, or Youtube electronic Networks.
These ways are legitimate.
Do not cut corners or you'l never get better...
Check out my music, I don't even wanna advertise or even release most of it. I still decline multiple label offers a week cause I truly deep down know that I'm not at my true potential- yet.
Just don't think down upon urself for getting little to no feedback---, followers or comments. They don't make your music, you should make it too make it cause you love it. If your out trying to impress or look like somthing your not this game isn't for you.
Take care- keep your head up.-W4veForm
Thanks for the feed back. I feel you. I don't want to impress, I just want people to listen. I don't want to sell anything, I want true fans. I know it will take time. I just would like a jump start. None of this fake stuff tho.

Thats interesting wave. I keep an eye on people just out of curiosity to see how they promote and grow. I think one of them might have purchased followers or comments. I saw someone win a remix comp as well with a track that was hands down the worst among the contest. I think there was some back scratching going on there.
I agree that is shit but to be honest, its just part of the game. Outside of music, the entire world operates like this. People who play a strait game don't get ahead like people who take risks and dodge the rules.

I'm in it for fun, but it is no fun alone. Fans to hear it and really appreciate it make a world of difference. I used to be in a touring band and there is nothing better than sharing a new song with fans and having fans beg for the next.

let me elaborate then.
just because doing things in a dodgy manner is a "standard" outside (and arguably within) music doesn't make it right. never. if you're in it for money and recognition, I might understand this attitude, I won't agree with it however.
everyone has their own interpretation of what constitutes success. I get that. as a consumer, I'm not prepared to support some lazy skrilly (or mala, fwiw) knock-off as opposed to a guy doing things his own way and trying to express his own perception of how music should be. take the latest Hybris album as an example; nothing I'd play out or even listen to repeatedly, but the man has a vision and manifested it through his creative output...
you know what I'm getting at ultimately. all about that artistic integrity. should be valued over success imho (big up Pete for sticking to what you were doing from day 1 on that note). and if things don't end up working out, maybe it's down to your music being shit in the first place, maybe it's down to being at the wrong place at the wrong time, maybe there just isn't a market for your music, which is certainly sad, but what can you do...
try. fail. try again. fail better...

I spew the truth so yall get mad? Listen to your music,
It's been and has been re-produced for two decades. Your not
impressing anyone. House, Techno, everything has no
learning curve to make and no talent what so ever,. Theirs no
art in it. Yet Lye talks shit to me calling me Autistic? Pretty sad.
He couldn't ina day of his life, ever come close to what I produce.
So the only one,....
I wont stoop to his pathetic low level.

Hey at least WaveForm didn't just say "produce good music and the results will come" like the first guy who responded.
Like, if only that's the way it actually worked. Name one producer who got big in this day and age without any work put into promotion or marketing... you can't, it's impossible. The fact is that marketing is a huge part of the game if your goal is expanding your audience, and it's just annoying when people are intentionally naive about this.
I mean surely the implication can't be that you're supposed to make amazing music, and then just sit on your ass and hope that some major label owner or dj stumbles across your small ass hard to find sound cloud page? Come on now...
