Hi all from a first time poster but long time lurker

Something that might be of interest to the producers out there - For a limited period Optimum Mastering have discounted their prices on acetate cutting. All dubs are cut in the main studio by myself, a cutting engineer for 11 years, who can name Planet Mu, Combat, Reduction, and Blackacre as satisfied customers, using the finest analogue and digital hardware on a superb sounding Neumann VMS 70 lathe.

10" single sided acetate - £25
10" double sided acetate - £35
12" single sided acetate - £30
12" double sided acetate - £40

All prices are inclusive of VAT are refer to a single track on each side cut in an unattended session only. For E.P. dub cutting prices please contact the studio. Postage & packing if required will cost extra.

Yeah, we have been charging £60 ex vat for a 12" slate for the past few years but I have managed to persuade my boss to drop it down to something more competitive (so I can hear more dubstep in the studio!).

Don't know how long they will let me run with these prices, but should be able to keep it going until Christmas, and then see how it goes.

yes you can get any tracks you own cut on dub - under 6min (ish) on 10", under 8-9min on 12" for max volume.

who else would supply the tunes but you?? You can cut from 320k mp3 if necessary but obviously wav files are much better.

question:

is it possible to do non dancey stuff?

basically I have a friend who does a solo project, kinda experimental folk/indie stuff and for his birthday in feb I think it would be great to get him a dubplate of exclusive versions of his songs for him!

i have a feeling it is

but i dont see why the producer would care really, especially if you're playing it out and just want it on vinyl to mix it your way

fair enough, i am pretty sure here in australia if u buy a cd ur allow to make one copy of it, but that copy is for ur self and is to be used as a back up..
figured it would be the same with pressing a dubplate..

Well, you can get away with making copies for personal use, but not for public playing. And strictly speaking, a cutting-room should be requesting an AFL (application for licence) form approved by the MCPS before cutting - which means the copyright owner needs to okay it, which ain't going to happen in most cases.
