Beats People Movement in association with Bfm Present:
Dubstep Alliance
Featuring:
DJ Pinch (UK)
DJ Pinch occupies a special place in Dubstep history. After an inspired visit to Forward>> in late 2003 he returned to his native Bristol with missionary zeal. He began DJing and promoting the city's Dubstep first night, Subloaded, that matched London's DMZ or Forward>> in spirit and soundsystem bass weight. After helping Vex'd on their path to album success, Pinch founded his own label, Tectonic Records with its legendary motto: “If your chest ain’t rattlin’, it ain’t happenin”. Tectonic has grown to become one of the most trusted labels in the scene, bringing a string of top quality releases from, among others; Skream, DQ1 aka Oris Jay, Loefah, Digital Mystikz, Cyrus, Distance, Omen, Sydney-siders Moving Ninja and most recently breakthrough Techno-influenced producer 2562.
Pinch’s debut release on Planet Mu ‘Qawwali’ - named after the Sufi Muslim form of devotional singing, achieved anthem status and crossed barriers gaining popularity with music listeners of all persuasions. His follow-up release on the electronica label ‘Punisher’ with its memorable “Spread Out!” vocal sample solidified his reputation as a key producer of the Dubstep sound. Pinch has remixed for profile artists such as Simian Mobile Disco and also runs ‘Earwax – the sister imprint to Tectonic - sporting heavy-duty fuel for the dancefloor.
Pinch made a name for himself as a DJ that combined bass impact with deep melodic subtleties, building his sets with precision timing and choice selection to work a crowd up from deep meditation vibes to a full-on skank mode, soaking up influences that span Dub, Techno, Jungle, 2-step and beyond. He has played across Europe, the US and around the UK including London’s infamous bi-monthly Dubstep night, DMZ.
Pinch’s latest 12-inch release ‘Pepper Spray’ is available on Planet Mu as of the 1st of October.
His much-anticipated debut LP ‘Underwater Dancehall’ is set for release on his own Tectonic imprint from the 2nd of November.
As part of his first Australasian Tour DJ Pinch will be playing one North Island show only, as headline act at Auckland’s Dubstep Alliance launch party.

Pinch was fookin' bad. Some new Coki thing absolutely murdered it, and it was good to hear some of the Tectonic classics too - 'System' was epic. Auckland dubstep is no joke right now, it was seriously encouraging to see people skanking so hard once again. This aint no passing phase seen!
Dope night.
