yes one shots really - ive exploited my current drum samples for 3 years. Time to upgrade and spend some money on some new drum packs!

The thing with drum sample CDs are you'll get a mixed bag of loops and single hits, here are some you might be interested, check below for my faves.

whats on a sample CD that u cant find on the net for nuthin? or am i missing sumthin?

i got more drum hits on my hard disk than i can ever use. the majority of which were downloaded. and no doubt a large part of em from links in the 'production bible' thread on this forum.

but i never really checked more than a couple fo CDs, so if there r some that r really worth forking out for (i.e not just some more 909s) then enlighten me.

and then let me know when u put em online for downloading ; )

downloading, recording, processing and layering shud b enuf 2 get almost any sound u could want. without spending shit. i think.

true. and admittedly probably half the ones i downloaded have fallen into that category. i just ignore them. but theres some fuckin heavy sites out there tho. particularly some of thes audio-geek soundspotter type sites where the quality is top. long live foley-retards in anoraks creeping the swamps with impressive mic booms out insearch of sound

but yeah, will mayb check some cds out. jus the cash tho innit. even 40 quid is hefty. especially when u only likely 2 use it 1ce or twice. or r they pretty varied so u dont just end up with the tracks all soundin the same?

any1 got reccomendations then for good acoustic instrument cds? what's generally, and derogatively, called 'ethnic percussion' i guess. but not just a load of fucking bongos please. or maybe sum seriously big hiphop/crunk sounds that boot down yr door and do damage to yr ugly english dentistry?

but i think his point was not about clean vs dirty, but full heavyweight hits vs just fuckin weedy and thin wet-fart hits. which i recognise some downloads r.

on the better sites u get to hear an mp3 of each hit b4 deciding to download or not tho, so if u dont like dont take

also: whats wrong with taking hits out of breaks? i'd rather rake thru some charity-shop dustbins and find only 2 juicy hits for 50p than spend 55quid on some polished muso slut drums that are anyone's who'll pay for em. even if it works out more expensive when u do the math. all about the hunt.

and dont go thinking u got to find some rare-as-fuk hiden funk-gem to pilfer good drums: ive found nuf killer breaks to cut up on some of the most dire turds, in all kinds of genres. and hits r two a penny.

but it doesnt hurt to have some well recorded hits as a base for layering, just adding colour and tone with yr dirty dustbin sounds

Have a look at the production bible, there's one pack by Decklyn which has everything you want. Single shot samples.
Also I don't see the problem with slicing loops but that's up to you.

full heavyweight? Can you please post a few samples? I never had a snare I liked enough to use it without layering with claps and other snares.

if u read the thread properly u'll find that i'm mostly being sceptical about sample cds and also take the position of reccomending layering and processing of cut up loops, downloaded hits etc. but as someone pointed out that a lot of what you find on the net is shit I got to concede that having some full sounding well recorded sample as a base for layering is a good start.

i have no fucking idea if "full heavyweight hits" are what you get on sample cds, cos as i made clear from the start ive never used them, hence why i askin sum1 to convince me as 2 why i should bother with them when i'm perfectly happy makin my own drums.
