Snare design forum

Do any of you guys know the song I'm Weird by Ghost Town? There's a snare in there that has a nice sound but I can't get it no matter how hard I try. I can't get the sound of the tail or body or tbh the whole sound. Can anyone help me please?

that song is possibly the worst thing ive heard all month, just wow.
but yeah its just a 200hz boosted snare probably a 909 layered with a higher freq snare with emphasis on the punch/200hz area..
probs vengeance sample pack

If I were to build it from scratch what samples should I use for transient, body or something because I looked at the waveform and the body is small and so is the transient but the tail has a nice sound but I tried a 909 and I can't get that tail sound. Reverb? Distortion?

the tail probably is just some random snare sound with a nice tail on top
just put any snare with a tail on top and cut out the body so its just the tail and the 909 body

should the tail be a 909? Plus like I said the body is short. When I tried recreating it, the snare body I made was too big.

Listen to around 1:35

nah i dont wanna listen 2 that again lol
but the tail can be anything man just pick a snare with a nice tail and shape the envelope with some attack so the tail is all you hear
and if the body is too big on a 909 then just use an envelope to shorten it

Do you know how to make the snare from right in? I just don't know how to make my snares sound like that because the drums sound live..I can't get the sound of the tail, body or transient. Any ideas on what to use to get a clean sounding snare like in the song right in?

It is definitely a vengeance sample! I've heard them use loads of vengeance stuff!
However this sounds like the skrillex snare, which I have made a similar sound to before
My processing is basically this

Take a tom sample, a live one thats hit hard is usually best, tune it up till you get a good body sound, then cut and fade the sample so you literally just have the transient and eq the peak in at 200-250hz!

Then I take a 909 snare/clap, eq and compress them then fade them so they're fairly solid sounding and layer them with the tom transient, I usually have these running in a group with some gentle compression, i send them to a high passed reverb and thats how I get that splashy tail, sometimes if its not as splashy as I want i'll layer a burSt of high passed white noise with it, which fills out the reverb a bit more. Then I pretty much resample and add whatever else i feel is necessary, like more eq or compression etc!

I got pretty accurate results with that heres one I did the other night (however I was working on laptop speakers and couldnt hear the horrible ring my tom was giving, should have faded it more, but you get the idea)

Hope this helps!

I'm really loving the snare from Right In by Skrillex at the moment but (I've posted this before jus gonna copy n paste :P)
