Broadcast/radio/copyright/promo laws, student radio

Yo
I'm putting together a radio show for the student station. Apparently tho, there's a bit of a problem because according to the bosses, we can't really live mix music, especially not copyrighted music?
I'm pretty confused about the specifics TBH. They said I could play the tunes if I got specific permission. Not sure if I have to ask label owners, or the artists themselves or whatever.
The station:
- Has adds between shows
- Is an internet station
- Has every show automatically uploaded to a podcast feed
Does anyone know about the laws pertaining to this stuff? Can someone explain/link me to something?
Cheers

i'm assuming he's asking for permission to avoid getting sued
idk unless he's asking for proof just lie about it. and maybe don't play pop tunes or w/e

woi bruh
doing the same this year, got a 2 hour slot each week, will make a topic about it soon, haven't heard anything about that man, sounds like breeze though surely its same as any other show, so as long as you write out a tracklist so they know what you played they can do prs (or whatever they're wiling out about)

You'll be fine man student radio only gets an average of 3 listeners per show anyway.

You can mix copyright material as long as you have the legal ground to do so. E.g. people send you dubs for your show, all good. You have to ask the copyright owners, so if it's on a label you probably have to ask the label etc. Radiohead , as another example, own their own shit I think though even though a label releases it 'on their behalf' so you have to ask them. Just look for the C in the circle and whose name's on the right of it...

^thats what I'm wondering about. That's pretty much how the bosses put it, but from what I've seen online with other ninjas etc doing internet radio, nobody actually abides that strictly by the rules. I doubt rayman actually asked hyperdub before playing the new rashad tune or whatever, you know?
In any case I already asked blackdown and pinch if I could play tunes from their labels. Blackdown said "course. radio is promo" and Pinch favorited my tweet, dunno what that means lol.

Yeah tbf if it's like a truhed show I doubt any label would get vexed over their tunes being played on a uni radio

If it's too much effort to get permission then just make the sounds with your mouth

Just play whatever you want. There's not enough youth rebellion these days.
It's a vital part of culture in general.
