Hey everyone, sorry I've been offline for a bit. LDN004 has unfortunately been pushed back a week, so it should drop Monday October 22nd. Bigup for the support.

I managed to get myself out of mp3 samples or myspace snippets for this one, didn't want to spoil the pleasure, I've got a lot of expectations for it :)

It's a Chinese stringed instrument, not unlike a zither.

All of the samples in "The Bits" and "Northside Cheng Dub" come from the same collection of sounds I assembled from an old Chinese classical music album. "The Bits" is in fact three different grime-inspired riddims juggled into one.

"Northside Cheng Dub" is a dubstep track built using the same template. The snare is a mad noise from the old vinyl: either the string broke or the musician punched the cheng half way through the track! :)

It's called "Northside..." because the vinyl is a clash album between these old masters of the cheng: the north style and the south China style of playing the cheng. I sampled the north style.

Bigup everyone feeling these. :)

Yeah feeling this one for sure. Really unique and intricate style. I'd never heard of a cheng before but its dope! Gonna have to seek out some more of that sound. Big up!

Blackdown, do you know of any places around London i can get to know more about chinese classical music? So far watching Liu Fang on youtube is as far into it as i have got, but i love the sounds.

Love the snippets by the way, am going to have to get this. Didn't know the chinese invented the soundclash, i was already impressed by them inventing tea.

Apparently you have loads of bits floating around, any plans for more releases?

Hey Slim,

I tend to buy old vinyl and compilation CDs. When I visit countries I buy stuff but you can also get them in shops like Sterns in London. Here's their Chinese section. I find the music is always hit and miss, but at least it's all new (to me) sounds.

As for our other material, look out for more Keysound Recordings releases in 2008. :)

Bigup.
