SNH Music Reviews

Post by OGLemon » Thu Oct 23, 2014 3:15 pm

What it be people

This thread is going to be about posting your reviews of albums, singles, eps, etc.
All genres of music. Any point in history.
Rating scale: x/10 ; 0 ≤ x ≤ 10
Optional but suggested, include a small paragraph (5-7 sentences) describing what you liked or didn't like. What was your favorite song? etc.
If you can, post pic of album cover.
If you want to, post youtube video of a track, but the youtube video should go in a spoiler. This is to keep the page from lagging.
The main idea of this thread is help people find new music that they typically wouldn't hear. Keep the chit-chat to a minimum.
:w:

I'll start.

Nordvargr - Final Preparations

Nordvargr is probably the most well known artist in the Scandinavian ambient scene. Can't think of much to say, so I'll just leave you with the music.

7/10

Franz Liszt - Piano Concerto No. 2 in A Major
Piano - Nelson Freire
Conductor - Michel Plasson (Dresden Philharmonic)
[+] Spoiler
Here we have a recording from the 90s of Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 2. I like this piece because of the wide range of emotions Liszt provokes from the listener. Liszt presents a transformation from somber origins to a rising harshness. Liszt then proceeds into an almost apologetic section, this ends with a battle between the piano and orchestra, but it too ends in a graceful movement. Finally, Liszt adds a final energy to the piece in the form of a grandiose finale. However, I find the finale to be the worst part of the piece because it comes off as rushed and unfulfilling to me.

7.5/10

What's that album on the right? I've seen it like 5 times, but I keep on forgetting to listen to it.

on some existential shit, i'll review in this matter. when I go running, I listen to either that, or arcade fire - funeral. recently i've added in mbv - loveless as well. sometimes when my runners high is acting up (which is a good thing) I am close to getting tears in my eyes by one thing or another, really emotional m8

Speaking of crying while listening to music. I was listening to the PAN rinse show while walking home one night, and they were playing some ambient stuff. The emotion of the music kind of swept over me and tears started rolling out of my eyes, all while people were walking around me.

But anyhow

loveless is unique to my tastes in that it is entirely aesthetic, but it is the perfection of this ugly aesthetic which makes it so beautiful imo

I thought 'watership down' was like a jokey mock title relating to titanic and that neutral milk hotel was a joke on a bad band name..... but if Ray likes them? :D

good thread

is it ok to only review 1 song?
