Fact Mag top 100 underrated

Post by RKM » Sun Oct 26, 2014 5:50 pm

http://www.factmag.com/2014/10/26/100-underrated-djs/

factmag done did a do, thoughts?

nice to see riz get on there [number 60} (even tho im sure i almost had him in the summer mix comp so i'll probably on the list next year), parris too and joe nice

i probably wouldn't have put in jumping jack frost, only seen him once and sure he's a veteran badboi selecta, but when i saw him at fwd he really wasn't giving it the necessary panache to make it a Rave

im biased but i'd have suggested vivek, seen him countless times his tunes are great and he always has some of the best dubs going

"There’s very few producers who could both feature on FACT’s 100 best IDM and a hypothetical 100 best Dubstep, but Geiom’s released minor classics in both scenes, and was mixing Carl Craig with Coki longer before that sort of genre splicing was acceptable in dubsteppers’ circles."

Craig 'n Coki
sounds a bit like a drug cocktail.

I personally know three of the people in this list! Big ups fact magazine for that. Also there are a bunch of others in here I agree with too. Brian Not Brian being particularly impressive track selection wise when he's djed at stuff I've been to (like Blackest Ever Black related stuff)

geiom is a good dj. played with him a few times, but was on more of a 130 / wonky post dubstep tip mixed with some grime?

although bit surprised to see littlefoot on there, as i thought he packed it all in to concentrate on his band?

i guess this is fact magazine we are talking about.

Haven't heard of Tom Unlikely.
What part did he play in the early days? Anybody know?

I definitely agree with Joe Nice and Sunil Sharpe. Not really with Mano Le Tough.

Think maybe Mr. Ties should be in the list.

re Tom Unlikely
enjoyed his bit of this:

and did Mark Pritchard make the top 100?
otherwise he should be in here with Goth Trad, NType & MarkN.

this extract is worthy:
Fact Mag wrote: The DJ Mag Top 100 poll offers zero exposure for interesting acts...
merely reinforcing the power that faux-hawked Dutch trance producers hold in the dance music world.
In short, it simply makes the rich richer, and represents, we’d wager, the tastes of DJ Mag‘s staff even less than its readership.

So this year, we ... take this opportunity to shine a light on some of our favourite DJs who not only will never crack the DJ Mag Top 100,
but will – for the most part – never be flown business class to a booking, never get a Resident Advisor mix, never even be ripped off by Diplo.
Some of these artists were crucial to specific, regional scenes and never received adequate plaudits outside of them,
while some are the sort of veteran club residents who understand the flow of a clubnight too well to ever upstage their headliners, even though they could.
Others are just brilliant DJs and radio hosts who don’t fit neatly enough into a movement or scene to give magazines a hook to write about them.

Decent list, big up Riz for getting on it.. fully deserved!

Nice to see Chimpo get picked as well, regardless of what you think of his productions (I assume most will just judge him on the recent exit one) he's a fucking sick DJ and been killing it for some time now. Did think it was a bit weird they put "If you don’t know the ape man, you don’t know Manchester." cause if you know Chimpo and you know Manchester.. you know Rich Reason deserved to be on that list as well. Rich puts on the Hit & Run nights that Chimpo, Strategy & Chunky are regulars at, Rich would always book some great DJs like Kahn, Om Unit, Youngsta, Mala ect. and I'd always come away thinking that Richs set was just as good as theirs.. particularly when he puts on the Ghost of Garage events. If anyone from Manchester deserves it I think its Rich but big ups Chimpo, still fully deserved.

Didn't know that. Literally only know the Dinosaurs with Guns track :)

I put down Mr. Ties, Willie Burns and Traxx.
Traxx is quite well known I guess, but it's a safe pick because he can't be overrated really.
