Did you make it yourself or bring in outside help?
Music seems so much more enjoyable when you have visual stimulation as well. Im thinking of either trying to film some shite on my phone and piece it together or sticking an ad on gumtree asking if a student wants to take part in a project for free.
Thoughts?

Everytime I think about making of a music video I get this flashback about 5-10 dudes packed really tight and swaying like a fuckin penguins along the street while the cameraman is walking backwards in front of 'em. Guys were shooting a music video for a rap song obviously.

local community colleges usuaully have a bulletin board. put a sign up asking for a video. no pay but chance to add to portfolio. some student will hit you up.
seen afriend do some good basic videos with just a weird fractal generating program but they can look a bit windows 95 screensaver

In my experience of watching acquaintances' and friends' DIY music videos versus videos they got someone else to produce. The cheese piled heavily on "scripted" videos done by the musicians themselves. The abstract ones done by the musicians themselves tended to be better. When I say scripted versus abstract, abstract is like a bunch of shots of things collaged together in a meaningful way versus trying to have a video with a story. Overall the videos that were produced by someone other than the musician were better.
Also, I'm going to go ahead and be that guy and point out too things. Only if for the sake of civil conversation about the topic. First, music shouldn't need a visual aid, though visuals and music DO get along swimmingly. Second, the mentality (not finger pointing to the OP here) seems the product of a visually oriented, dare I say obsessed, culture. Smiley face, cheers, no offense, etc etc.

Yeah was deffinitly thinking abstract..
I myself am not bothered about having something to watch but i just noticed that people are far more likely to give your stuff a listen with visuals (may look more professional im thinking)

Absolutely. And yea. You've gone the extra mile and though it doesn't literally make your music better, that perceived professionalism rubs off on the music. I agree with the "sticking a notice on a board" at a college thing. I've thought about doing it for a variety of things I wanted done, but haven't acted on it yet. If you feel you have the time and equipment to do something abstract yourself I say go for it!
The worst that'll happen is you'll be out some time. Honestly for giving an abstract video a shot can you get away w/ filming clips on your smart phone and using window's movie maker?

That second video is exactly my point, something so simple which without music would be boring (no offece intended) but with the music it really puts some perspective on the vibe your going for

I think videos are worth it.... preferably something with a bit of narrative, as there have already been enough "abstract for the sake of being abstract" videos out there.
The 2 fave videos I had done were:
This one, featuring a gritty Panamanian breakin' crew (which I think fits perfectly with the hiphop track)
And this one - which is totally glossy, but again fits the pseudo-pop flavor of the track.
I didn't make these myself.. I used professional video crews. Both were done for free for me... but that is why it is so important to always be working on your networks - especially OUTSIDE of music. Create a web of talented creatives.
