Dark Robotic Sound

Post by dansci » Thu Nov 20, 2014 9:25 pm

Hi im looking to make this robotic sound... I tried it but i cant seem to get my patch to have a similar style.

Soundcloud

From my analysis, they use a low pass filter, delay, and some format/window on the oscilaters.

I use Serum and Massive.

Try using the sample and hold in Massive?

You could probably get the Escalation wave form to sounds quite similar, if you add a low pass and some phase and layer it with some sine waves etc. Then just mess around with the filter etc.

I'd keep it on spectrum though.

Making a chain of a couple of BP filters, then an LP on top can sometimes give a nice old-school Datsik feel to a bass.

I'll say it one more time and thats it. To get robotic sounds you need to first get a decent preset that sounds pretty metallic or whatever, I use operator a I know what to look out for when making a sound, in massive I would suggest use one of the generic throat waves and use +/- then its just all about your modulation and then distortion to make the sound "talk" or wobble, then at the end you add your phaser, flanger, and chorus/delays. Mess with the dry wet and dont go to crazy with too much of any of those. Also phasers are super super super important for making stuff talk more. Add those in before you do your modulation and distortion and then go ahead and do it again afterwards.

No one really brings this up because everyone is too scared to resample but most guys do, basically just create a simple basses line and then go resample and add more filtering distortion and even chop up stuff and maybe reverse. Arranging basses in audio rather than midi opens so much more sounds. Plus not as much of stress on your computer
