Hey guys hope you're well.

Overnight during my sleep I've managed to spill a sugar drink in my MacBook pro, posting in general because I think its most likely to be seen here(or snh)

Has anyone here done this before if so do you have any advice you can share?
It appears only really the charging (maglight) unit and a fraction of the motherboard is affected..
At the end of the day I only care about the HDD but would rather not lose my laptop lol.

Obviously trying to diy it first as Apple might as well just sell me a new laptop.

Safe.

If it's still under warranty bring it to Apple, there's a chance they could help you out with a new one or repair the one you have.

I spilled box wine all over mine last year, after letting it dry it smelled like shitty stale wine and worked for about 2 days before dying outright on me

No warranty, 5 years or so old and been looking at getting a new one.

Ehbes did your HDD fry?

At the end of the day the only thing that matters is the HDD, should i just remove it and store it somewhere safe?
I can't stress how important it is I don't want to damage it and want to prevent losing a good 60-70 logic sessions plus everything else

Don't educate me on not backing up I already know I'm an idiot for so many reasons because of this lol

Thanks for all your input so far, it's appreciated

rice won't help. Phigure could be of more use than I am, but I think as long as you spill anything other than distilled water or pure alcohol on electronics, they're fucked... once the "sugar drink" dried up, all the conducting elements in it (salts etc.) will still remain on the hardware. if anything, take out your HDD and try cleaning the rest with pure alcohol (you can get that in pharmacies, possibly liquor specialists).

If you remove it you have to buy a new internal one and clone the current to the new one with SuperDuper http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/ ... ption.html.

Thanks for all your input family

I knocked it in my sleep so I didn't have the chance to pull it apart so I've decided it's fucked

Was going to get someone to "professionally" check if it was it was dead but they were going to charge absolute bank to do so and that's just moneu off of a new one.

Apparently you can turn it into a portable HDD for like $30 or so, so that's just the smartest option really.

Will keep this and maybe fix it in the future

Bare shame really it seems like hardly any liquid actually got in but I couldn't take it apart quick enough (what the fuck is with all the stupid screws lol, I get security and a means to make more money but ffs)
