A sound constantly compared to it’s east end offshoot, Grime - which produced the likes of Dizzee Rascal and Kano - Dubstep’s roots are a mixture between the UK Garage scene and Jamaican sound system culture that has allowed this bass heavy genre to swallow everything in it‘s path. Since it’s early origins of small dark London venues and home studios, Dubstep is now one of the world’s freshest genres.

Here one of the scene's most legendary figures teams up with new label Aphex:Recordings and SWrecords (a label better known for it’s million selling artist, Mauro Picotto) to bring a small selection of those Dubstep sounds.

Am I alone in thinking £7.99 is a bit steep for this? Considering it's a download and isn't DRM free (and I'm in no way trying to open a can of worms here, there's enough of that going on elsewhere on the forum)

8 quid for an mp3 mix?

Permanently exclusively from Itunes? Their sound quality is suboptimal, even disregarding the DRM issue. Any chance of making it available through bleep, beatport, junodownload, boomkat, emusic, or any of the many other fine purveyors of high quality DRM-free dubstep mp3s? Or even at least Itunes Plus?

Maybe I'm the only one who thinks this, but Itunes as a concept is such a missed oppurtunity. Finding legal MP3's is not an easy thing to do, Itunes is trying to be the most comprehensive mp3 shop out there...

but fucks it all up by requiring subscription fees. I have no interest in downloading X amount of tunes a month. Record shops in the real world dont charge me for the privilege of giving them custom, so why does the internet have to steal their business model from Sky

Itunes doesn't require subscription fees.

First, as Kuma points out, Itunes doesn't have a subscription model; the only big mp3 store that does is emusic, which sells DRM-free indie label mp3s. And I have no problem using up all my monthly downloads. (Emusic is where I got Burial, Boxcutter, Vex'd, Mark One, Kode 9, Various Production, Bass Clef, Distance, Milanese, etc.) On a track by track basis, its prices are much lower than Itunes, as well.

Second, Itunes doesn't sell mp3s, it sells aac files. I don't think Itunes Plus is mp3, either, but at least Itunes Plus is a much higher quality rip and leaves out the digital rights management that controls what you can do with your files.

Good to know. It'll probably get there in the UK and USA before it does in Canada; Itunes Canada seems to be a bit on the slow side. At least the standard Itunes version is up, so there's hope.

Considering it's singles AND a mix, yes that does make it good value for money. I made the purchase, removed the DRM then used the convert to mp3 function in itunes. As good as buying it from anywhere else now!
