I have that Marantz amp/tuner in the pictures.

I'd like to hear how this thing changes the sound. You could already
color the sound in so many nice ways with a couple of resistors and diodes.
People get nice results with just transforming too.

The thing about this is how it's worded. It's so ridiculous. Headphone amps exist obviously. Including ones that can be used with portable devices. Amps also have their own sonic characteristics of course. But marketing a headphone amp as "bringing you the sound of vinyl" is utterly fucking bizarre. It's like they're trying to sell to idiots who haven't heard of a headphone amp before.

And suceeding by the looks of it, they're way above their kickstartet goal...

Honestly, I never got the point of portable headphone amps in general to use with your phone. There are apps out there with shitty DSPs to provide you with a warmer sound and I'm willing to bet you won't hear the difference. All you're going to do with it anyways is listen to shitty 128kbps mp3 stereo remasters of the beatles, stored on your cheap phone with $1 d/a converters. Get a decent amp and a decent set of headphones at home, a decent audio interface too if you're going to act all audiophile, and quit being a snob on the bus.

Oh, look, common amps reproduce audio just beyond the human auditory system, but Leo can play tunes for elephants and bats. That is what I look for in a headphone amp, elephants and bats.

I thought amps are used to boost volume when the source is too weak to drive headphones. Sound coloration is a side effect?
