you said best music scene, not most commercially sucessfull in the 90s

Not that I necessarily think it's the best, but Birmingham (and surrounding areas) has had some big ass influential scenes in it's time: Brum Beat (and the later success of Steve Winwood), Nick Drake, ELO (and members like Roy Wood and Jeff Lynn), the birthplace of heavy metal and the death/industrial stuff like Napalm Death, Godflesh, Scorn, etc., massive involvement in ska and reggae, loads of the new wave/new romantic stuff in the 80s, people like Lee Fisher pushing Acid House, all the House Of God Birmingham sound type stuff like Surgeon, Regis and that lot. Goldie and Kemistry both being from Birmingham or the surrounding area. Big involvement in bassline. All this Jackin House shit that's going on now. All this stuff they're calling "B-Town" or whatever.

Big up Birmz, had its fingers in a lot of musical pies.

no, but to be more serious... I reckon Germany with 90m people could have more going for it. There's obviously a bit of techno and whatnot, but was it really necessary for the creation of techno to not get what rock was about for thirty years (sorry neu, can etc) ?

I reckon in any giving (that has sought out stuff by themselves) itunes library will contain around atleast 40% british music .. so there's no doubt that it's about the uk, but is that just because of jamaican immigrants?
