Newquay dubstep

Post by zaniest » Fri Nov 23, 2007 5:43 pm

Hello to all

Im new to the forum and just though i'd let you know about my music, i started producing in 2001, i made Trance and House, then Dnb, breakbeat and hip-Hop and it then became a weird Electronica. In the past few months i've been making Dubstep, (after hearing a set and becoming completely blown away) and i've had a huge response, so i'm gonna stop here and keep on it.
but
I feel that my dubstep is kind of a cross between my weird electronic and dubstep. I should also say that i love classical music a lot. So you'll hear that in there....

Check it out and tell me what u think

I can't think of a better way to ensure that no-one on this forum listens to your stuff than calling the thread "Trancey Dubstep", however I am currently reinstalling windows and therefore extremely bored so i had a listen anyway. The tracks are OK (better than the thread title suggested). There's some nice musical elements in there, that's definitely the strongest point. The trance reference is definitely a red herring, there's a few arpeggiated lines and a bit of acid-y filter tweaking, but that's as far as it goes. There's been a bit of discussion on here recently re: drums, and i'm afraid most of these fall into the "boring halfstep" category. Dubstep doesn't equal sub bass and halfstep, it should equal sub bass and whatever else you fancy. The mixdowns are OK, not detracting but not really adding much value either, if you follow me. Overall, not bad but a bit run of the mill - need to work much harder on the rhythmic elements to stand out from the avalanche of generic dubstep that's currently queueing up in my inbox.

There you go, how about that for a bit of constructive criticism?!

"i like your sarcasm Thomas"

I aint been sarcastic though?

I was just saying its obvious most artists write their own Myspace page, it gets to me (and is harder to read) when someone insists on pretending they got their manager to write it.

is all

P.S my comment about MYspace, was that its YOURspace. Hence a page about "Me". ahh fuck it

"Right now though i have turned back to electronica, totally influenced by the recent "Dubstep" extravaganza that has hit uk"

You make it sound like dubstep is a craze for the kids, which I'm guessing it is for you. I bet you aren't writing dubstep in 6 months time.

Well, as i say, im from Newquay, which is in Cornwall... There isn't anything much going on here. Its only just getting to us. Im 21 years old, so i'm hardly a kid. And yes, i will be making the music in 6 months time, i have been producing for about 7 years now and i've finally found my place, and i'm gonna keep at it.

And, responding to the "why" question about changing my profile, i noticed that most people that has music profiles, wrote in 1st person, plus, i write better that way. Plus, who really cares????? other than yourself of course

Fair enough if he's into the music and wants to get properly into making it... you can't really blame someone for getting into something late. Keep at it mate.

Cool, hope you are.

But 'Zaniest'?. It's a bit Timmy Mallet isn't it, a bit *wacky*?. I would never by a record by an artist called Zaniest, gotta be honest.

I think Polter Guest is bad.

You need to work on your drums though! Keep up the good work mate, ignore 60% of what you read on here - bare backseat producers who've never even touched a xylophone.
