Gilles Peterson has been keeping an eye on Dubstep, though he's still very selective about what he plays out.
"Night" was deemed crossover enough for him, and he was caning some Distance a good time back.
I'm a regular on the Worldwide forum (Brownswood) and the Jazz heads are definitely in two minds on the whole dubstep issue!

I think you're confusing snobbery with musical preference. Are you honestly suprised the nu jazz heads ain't all digging Grime, Metal, Rave and Crunk?!
As for smugness, it works both ways. Check the Klaxons Skreamix thread just above this one for - to quote you - some bare-faced derision of other 'scenes' and genres. There's plently of hate round these parts.
And you've derailed Utter Gutter's thread! He was pointing out that Gilles is supporting Instramental: Commanche (which isn't dubstep, but is fucking ace) as well as Kode 9.

gilles peterson has always been one of my favorite selectors and has been a big influence on me as a dj. the man has taste and it's great that he's showing love to dubstep. he was playing "request line" years ago, so this isn't new.
i fell like fans of niche genres like dubstep often don't appreciate eclectic music and eclectic djs (if it ain't from and for da streetz, then it's shit right?). calling gilles "nu jazz" and holier-than-thou is ridiculous and only points out your complete ignorance about who he is and what he does.
i've never bill myself as a strictly one genre DJ, so i've done sets that mix dubstep, d&b, jazz, reggae, house, broken beat, rare groove etc. what the fuck is wrong with that?

i've seen gilles live on more than a few occasions and he didn't play ANY "nu jazz." he played some fuck off favela music (one of the rudest and most lo-fi styles of music around), afro-beat, and brazilian samba. he didn't play any sade or brand new heavies or anything remotely like that.
the man is a dj for fuck's sake, and for that matter everybody has a right to be into and play whatever kind of music they want.
