okay - so i moved my room around yesterday and i dropped something on my deck

the case was on tho and it cracked and broke - but i didnt think any damage to the actual deck was done.

now i see that the anti - skating dial has snapped off - although if i hold it in place against wherre it broke it will still turn ...

the tonearm now is a little stiff and when i play a vinyl the needle will play a bit then skip back...

i have a sneaking suspision that this is a professional repair job

any help would be much much appriciated - i will try anything and everything -

I think you should bust out with some glue and selotape. If you dont fix it yourself take it to the shop and if they asked how it got on there say "you fell"...oh and use those puppy eyes too...

use the eyes , bless ya mate i trashed mine a while back too i ended up getting some lovely vestax to soften the blow , how are ya anyways , been time innit ?

sounds like you need a new tonearm. if you can live with the anti skating knob like that, it'll be a pretty reasonable fix - about 60 quid for a new tonearm and any electronics repair shop can replace for you - or if you or anyone you know is handy you can do it yourself. (repair shop should charge about 50-60 for labor if you take the whole deck in with your new tonearm.)

it's just a matter of unscrewing the old one, finding someone to solder the new leads in place and putting the whole bit back together again...

My old decks had taken some bad tumbles, all that was ever needed was a new tonearm.

If you're anywhere near as useless with practical stuff as my good self, I'd recommend getting a pro to sort it, I always seem to fuck up something else, usually a more expensive something else and then wonder why I even attempted it in the first place.
