atmos jungle Jungletrain.net promomix May 2006 by Dice

Post by dice » Fri May 05, 2006 3:14 pm

A mix I did for jungletrain.net where me and my buds host a jungle show...maybe something for the public here..contains a lot of classic atmospheric jungle tracks..probably one of my last pre-recorded jungle mixes as I can't stay off the dubstep crack (will have a new mix up after the weekend)

A lot of the tunes were heavily influential to my style ten years ago and have recently been featured in some of my mixes.

It felt good playing them again and I hope you will enjoy them too.

i'm not discriminating.

hmm, to me jungle has always been the preferred term eventhough in later years I would describe the sound jungle/dnb. Jungle wasn't about ragga lyrics, they entered later.

Anyway, enjoy the mix and let the music do the talking regardless ;)

Good stuff man, but must admit I've got more of a feel for that gunshot ting - got that Photek mix of Attica Blues, but really liked that remix of Blue Flowers by Dr Octagon he did - Kool Keith and Photek's a damn good combo.

That T-Raenon on ART's fuckin gorgeous too, very close to ambient but still with that trademark Photek bizniz - have dug it out and still sounds lush.

Shame he didn't keep his style rather than hitting the generic dnb path - real fuckin shame. Now there's a fella I'd like to hear knockin out dubstep...
Hmm....

jungle = older, sparse, more dub elements... more roots reggae type... all ragga, etc...

DnB is the shit you get today *puke*

Gotta be said when I first moved to Brighton (ooh, ten years ago), it was all hard house and techno at parties, which was pretty horrific. Last year it was mostly dnb, and after an hour you pretty much heard it to death.

When a mate came out and played Congo Natty and loads off ragga jungle that was the biggest breath of fresh air in ages. That and the garage/chas'n'dave mashup that came after, but then that's probably the drugs.

Dnb ended up sucking when it went too "production" and lost the ruffness - just ended up being the electronic version of death metal.
Hmm....

yep. I don't mind techno, but hardhouse is complete shit. I actually even like chicago house and funky house... Derrick Carter, Lawn Chair Generals, Sneak, etc.

There's even some DnB that I like, but I gotta tell ya, it's so few and far between with that shit. Mainly I like Klute, Photek, Seba and Paradox, Source Direct... stuff like that.

Otherwise, it's all the jungle sounds. I'm honestly a lot more into garage and house and downtempo than anything, Dubstep is way up top of my priorities as of now, though :D

Yeah, Source Direct, Photek that business - really articulate and intricate. Notice they don't really resort to leads that much, just keep those drums and atmosphere's going. You saying that made me have a good dig through the crates and found Black Domina - tune.

Burial was namechecking SD in that Blackdown interview, he's got some killer taste that guy. Must admit do like old suburban base.
Must admit got a bit of a fondness for Chicago house and some of the detroit stuff myself. Jeff Mill's Metropolis is a fuckin inspiration
Hmm....

I've been knee deep in dnb for the past twelve-thirteen years and have for long preferred the olden beats over the newer stuff...anyways, this is just one branch of the tree and there are plenty healthy branches left, it's just the rotten branches keep falling on your head ;)

of course I got pfm..:D Just didn't get one of his beats in this mix. I'm pretty much done with mixing dnb now, so you will have to hunt down some of my other mixes...they float around on the net and have featured plenty pfm, source direct, photek, ltj, ragga jungle, old school deejay/lucky spin (crystl!!) and newer stuff from paradox, macc, fracture & neptune, sileni, alpha omega, bassbin massive, etc. But don't want to get into this on the dubstep forum you know ;)
