BBC Dubstep Documentary....Podcast!!!

Post by mary anne hobbs » Sat Jan 19, 2008 10:03 am

yes yes y'all

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/documentari ... step.shtml

just an early headz-up about my new 30 minute Dubstep Documentary

(NB: this is NOT the regular show.. it's a completely seperate programme)

the show goes out on BBC Radio1 inside Pete Tong's In New Music We Trust show..
Thursday February 7th at 9pm..
so we'll hit about 2 million people, many of whom are brand new to the scene..

the aim is to capture a snapshot of the spirit of the scene and explain what makes it unique both musically and culturally..

i'd have loved to include more voices, but in truth, we had we had over 20 hours of interview footage.. and only 30 mins to tell the story..!

guests include:

Mala
Loefah
Sgt Pokes
Distance
Pinch
N-Type
Skream
Benga
Arthur aka Artwork - Big Apple
Benny Ill - Horsepower Productions
Chef
Jason at Transition Mastering Studios
Boomnoise
Dubway
Blackdown aka Martin Clark
Melissa Bradshaw

the programme will be accompanied by an online photo album put together especially for the show by Georgina from D.O.T.S
www.drumzofthesouth.com
so people who are new to the scene can see the characters and get a sense of the vibe... and the heads can just enjoy her beautiful and iconic work...

and also an online Compendium.. a basic guide offered as a starting point to artists, labels, club nites, record shops, online resources etc..

the show is deep and intelligent.. and i hope the heads will enjoy it as much is the newcomers..

this kinda airtime for the scene that we love is very special... :)

love

the documentary will 'sit' inside Pete's show..
but it's a programme in it's own right..
so it's a show within a show
does that make sense?

this is good for the scene because it means we will hit a much bigger audience many of whom will have just dipped a toe in the waters or will be coming to Dubstep for the first time..

You are quite old, did you ever go to Circus Warp raves?

Maybe you met my old man - Easygroove.

Was you down on the old skool free party scene? -

Spiral Tribe, Bedlam, Techno Travellers. Proper chaos style - like Mutoid Waste and that.

We was the last lot allowed in the travellers field at Glastonbury in 1990 - that was when the hardcore came to town and like, the indie peeps and that bloke Michael Eavis got well pissed off cos Bedlam was blasting Belgian techno 24 hours a day and after that then they got rid of the travellers and put the massive fence up and its got bare shit ever since.

I was five years old!

LOLZ!

But I was there.

:D

For sure... I won't miss it.
I've just been introduced to dubstep sound last year... so it's always good to know more about it.
