U pay for what you get basically. But when i actually do get round to getting the money to buy monitors i will get a pair of Alesis M1 MK 2's. Good monitors at a pretty affordable price.

Designed to be accurate from very low volumes to very loud volumes. But you pay extra for that. Being able to make bass patches at 3am is worth it

I use headphones, but GOOD headphones. I mostly produce away from my apartment, or really late at night (I work two jobs for about 55-60 hrs a week)
If you want headphones that sound like near field monitors, go with the Ultrasone dj pro 1. Either google it or check out there home page http://www.ultrasone.com
But you pretty much have to hear them to belive them......other wise for monitors, I would say save up and get either mackiehr824s, or genelecs, with a seperate sub...but those are $$$$$$$$

I don't mind the Behringer Truths for the price. Not strictly a "flat" monitor sound (they pack some serious bass, but you can roll it off using switches on the back of the speaker), but impressive for the price.

You don;t need your sub to match your speakers. You just need a good sub full stop.
You'll pay way over the odds for a matching sub if you're not careful.

If you just need something to fill in the low freqs your main monitors can;t handle then one of these will do the job!

I've got Tannoy reveals. Good speakers but i can definatly hear the difference when i use the studio at work with nice Mackies!
There is a chart in future music this month with the best monitors for the price range......
Fostex PM05 get a mention but apparantly not v accurate.
Yamaha MSP3 (£190) come out best for accurate and good, cheap monitors.
If you want to spend a bit more they suggest Event tr5/samson resolv 65a (£300-350)
and filthy amounts Genelec 1029A (£600), Mackie HR824 (£1200) or another yamaha MSP10 (£1258).
...Oh and get them delivered! I nearly broke my back taking mine from Turnkey to Preston via the tube and british rail!!

the fostex pm0.5 are the only fostex ones good to take..i work in a music shop, and the bigger ones gave problems to different people...
2ways (active) speakers, strong bass -not very loud tho- ...definitely worth for the price you pay, which is about 300 euro -cant exactly calculate it in punds..maybe 200?

sorry to bump such an old thread but i was just wondering if anyone could recommend a sub around the £100 mark? (preferably below the £100 mark, but i doubt that's possible). i've got a pair of M-Audio DX4s (lol, i know, but i couldnt afford anything better)
realise that's a bit tight but i'm absolutely skint. i've been looking at second hand ones on ebay but i just wanted to check whether there was something i could get that won't explode after 5 minutes of usage
