yeah i'd say it definitely is if you use your phone regularly. with the amount of free minutes i get i easily save on call costs compared to pay as you go and i get a free phone. and as mentioned above you can get all sorts of free stuff with contracts, and you can often get deals that pay you back a proportion of what you pay on your contract
lots of good deals to be had

most companies will put you on a payment plan to space out your bills if you lose a job or your circumstances change. but seriously, shop around there's loads of good deals around. you don't have to go with a long contract unless it's a really good deal

Its long yeah, cut up the sim and be done with it, then just pay the 20 / 30 or whatever it is per month.

definitely worth it
if you're one of those folk that keep yappin and then cry when the bill comes get a call cap put on by the network - ie when calls hit eg £15 then you're barred til next month (beware though the network doesnt guarantee the call cap - so if you go overt its not their fault and you still need to pay the bill)
cant see why you wouldnt have a contract - the money people shell out to get new pay as you go handsets and on top-ups over the course of a year! - unless you got no mates and hardly ever use your phone
plus with all the freebies on offer and cashback schemes it just makes sense

The package with Virgin media works out pretty well if you get tv, broadband and landline as well - works out a tenner for each. Basic package is 300 minutes and 300 texts and I don't use close to that a month, but it's still a damn sight cheaper than pay as you go.
