Technical question about mp3s - help a brother out?!!

I work for London Buses, and I'm knocking up some mp3s for route announcements & stuff....

Every time I re-open an mp3 file (in Audition) it seems to be adding a few miliseconds to the beginning and end of the file!

Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but I need to be really precise with the timing of these files.

Is this a standard thing with mp3s? Am I doing something wrong..? It's doing my head in!! Image

may not be the same but when i used to make mixes with itunes it used to automatically add a few seconds blank space at the end of/start of songs. you could turn that off in options somewhere.... could it be something like that?

Yeah, that was my first thought. But couldn't find any such option in Audition

Of course possible I'm missing something though....

Trouble is - my version of Soundforge is knackered, Audition's the only one I use for stuff
like this. Any half decent free programmes floating about anywhere you can recommend?

Good to know it definitely shouldn't be happening anyway, that's a start....

that was gonna be my advice, could just be the program

I wouldnt recomend it for much more than basic stuff, but Audacity doesnt do that for me, I use it alot for my mixes... maybe you can do the major stuff in Audition and trim the excess in Audacity?

I've got the files in wav format now, all as they should be.

There's only a few of them, and there only a few seconds long....

ANY chance someone could convert them For me?!!!!

Is it to do with the sampling rate of the file and the project you have open? I mean that if you open a 44.1k wav in a 48k project it'll have to stretch a bit won't it? I dunno if that makes sense, my brain is still fucked from Sunday and I'm a tad ill. Hope you gets it sorted.
