The Stanford Prison Experiment was a brilliant piece of work. You could never do anything like it now though.

probably wasn't as the guy wasn't actually receiving shocks, so although it does represent that humans can be cruel at heart, actual cruelty did not take place within the study as no-one was actually hurt

I think that's irrelevant blook, to all intents and purposes the participant thought they were genuinely shocking the person, pretty "evil" if you ask me.

aye i did say that in the first place, whilst it shows that the person was willing to be cruel, no actual cruelty took place as physical harm was not actually inflicted, whereas in the ones on this list it clearly was, i see what you are saying though

innit, i find that despite everyone spending a shitload of time taking the piss, when it comes down to it its often the biggest pisstakers that have the most good input to bring to threads such as this

You could argue that a lot of interesting and important findings were as the result of experiments such as these. Ethics have become such an huge overbearing concern in psychology that a lot more interesting experiments are no longer viable.

True, some of the chinese / japanese stuff is next level, but from what we know these days there just wouldnt be any point to some of the testing they were doing.

everyone was probably at it at some point, just some places are better at covering it up than others, or at glossing over it, for example, british history books are very good at forgetting how badly the RAF fucked over the mostly civilian city of Hamburg
