STOP TELLING PEOPLE TO USE GOOGLE

Even though google has the ABILITY to answer possibly everything..

That doesn’t make it the be-all-end-all solution for the internet..
I'm so sick of people responding with "HOW DO YOU MAKE THAT BASS? ROFL USE GOOGLE... DUH!! LOL1111"...

Let me remind you that we are on a "FORUM"
Do you know what forum means?.. Read carefully

1. the marketplace or public square of an ancient Roman city, the center of judicial and business affairs and a place of assembly for the people.
2. a court or tribunal: the forum of public opinion.
3. an assembly, meeting place, television program, etc., for the discussion of questions of public interest.

I bet some of you didn't know that..
people come HERE (A dubstep production forum) for a reason..
To ask more experienced people ..well.. how to produce dubstep.

Granted some of these questions may seem simple to us "vets"...
but "google" has never produced a god damn track.. and google doesn’t care if it helps someone... because google isn't a person.

If you can't help the person.. then STFU .. because just posting "use google" makes you a careless asshole. go to www.dogsonacid.com and click the "grid" if thats the kind of person you are.

This should be a place where people with any background and any level can learn the fundamentals and more of producing music.

to the newbs : You will always learn more on your own! So make sure you search for your question before asking! However if your stuck, this should be a place that can help you.

don't get me wrong either I fuck`n love google.
But I remember when I first started doing music.. and how frustraiting some simple challanges became.

people new to certain sounds, styles and computer technology are not always savvy to the terms use...and therefore do not know what to search under.

as silly as it may sound...not everybody that listens to dubstep uses the term wobble...and those who listen to DnB probably don't know the term reese...meaning the search function becomes a redundant tool.

it's best to remember (and something i think is obvious) is that the questions asked by one person may benefit others, new and veterans, some who may be otherwise afraid to ask.

it's better to have a search function where those who do decide to use it first aren't met with a bunch of search results where the answer will undoubtedly be some cock saying 'USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION'...and this is where you become the problem...

...i've no doubt that if i search a frequently asked question in the search function, i'm sure i would find a bunch of results saying 'use the search button'...hardly helping this website or curing yourself from seeing these horrid horrid posts that you despise.

doing what you suggest, encourages less forum activity, and discourages new users to join or continue further questions when needs be, the same users who would probably be able to help you in one way or another should the need arise later down the line.

rather than taking the time to post 'use the search button'...as quick as it is, it won't damage yours or anybody elses ego to just help or not help if you don't have the time.... why not explain and say 'also try the search function, there may be better advice/different techniques for the solution' if you think the answer is actually there.

saying that...Bands, musicians, producers, artists and people into exactly the same thing who don't know each other, will always transform into a bunch of cocks when within close proximity of each other whether online or in person.

@spencer: mate, I've been on this forum for a while and trust me, some people do need to be reminded of the search button and google.
Just look how many threads we have about wobbles, monitors, headphones, samples, acapellas, ... Cope with it: some people are just too lazy to find answers on their own while the whole music producing thing is about looking, thinking, searching, trying, experimenting... We're doing them a favor by pushing them to look for what they're after. Give one a fish he'll eat once, tell him how to fish blabla... you know the score...

And guess what... I was a noob as well and most things I learnt I did by looking for them (cf the bible).
Should I mention I'm french and had the additional language issue to deal with?

It's all good, and it wasn't personal (though reading it back, it may have seemed like that)...my bad...im throwing some perspective on the issue for both types of users not you specifically.

There should be two forums. One where people who are happy to answer questions, answer questions, and one where every question is answered by "load up a synth and try everything you can think of until you find it out for yourself" and/or "just fuckin google it".

See I don't know if anyone's noticed but this is dubstepforum.com. If anyone was to google a dubstep production question, the first hit should be right fucking here.

agreed, bible is a solid effort in compiling knowledge and many will benefit from Daft tnuc's work there, but like in my original post, it doesn't mean something to everyone and it doesn't mean a 'like it or lump it' way of thinking should be taken on by the user looking for info.

Sorry if I seemed to mean all questions should be answered by "search button" or "google it". I was just pointing out the multiple iterative questions. Everything apart from those is fine to me and is obviously due in a production forum.

@Auan: you're right about the links, that's what I began to do lately.
On another note, the bible is meant to be a collective work so feel free to add any idea or link to the thread and I'll update the main post.

The thing is, I quite like answering questions and helping people out because a) I quite enjoy trying to explain things to people and b) it's more interesting than work. But what gets long is having the same questions asked about once a week or people asking for a complete walkthrough of everything they want to do, which they could equally well get by RTFM or by reading a tutorial that they get sent to in response to their first post. If someone posts and asks 'how do I load a VST in FL' and noone suggests that they have a look in the manual, they'll probably come back tomorrow to ask how to enter notes or how to load a preset and so on until the whole forum gets bogged down in trivial threads that aren't interesting to anyone except the first poster...

I was thinking of putting together an 'absolute beginners' thread to complement the Bible with stuff more specifically targetted at people who haven't got the first clue what they're doing...

What about a thread taking people through step-by-step making My First Dubstep Track™? I.e. a guide to layering drums, samples, wobble etc etc, with a little bit on mastering at the end.

Then you could back it up with links taking them to more advanced versions of each topic if required, and a little disclaimer reminding them to vary what they're doing from time to time.

Just an idea......
