will it cause me problems if I play a club with some direct drives?

I have been learning to DJ for a while digitally, but wanna play dubs, obviously, so I need some cheap (i mean cheap) decks to practise sets on at home..

if I get the standard Numark cheapos (i used to have some when i was a kid) will nudging and beatmatching feel different enough to throw me off on directs?

Not at all. If anything, you'll find direct drives much easier to mix on, as the level of touching and pitch correction you needed with the belts won't be required.

yea it'll be easier when you transfer to directs, but it's probably a better idea getting directs in the first place. guaranteed your belts will piss you off no end! you can get second hand directs for the same price as new belts

My first turntable you had to take the platter off and move the belt by hand from the 33 to 45 rpm position

agree with £10 Bag - go 2nd hand and get direct drives to start with

i got belt drive decks

when ever i play on direct drive decks for the first 10mins it feels weird, but after that its easyier

same again with 10bag have a dig about in town if you have the likes of cash convertors etc i picked up a vestax pdx mk2 for £69.99 fukin made up!!!

weird, the cash converters down here converts lots of your cash into some expensive shit.

never any bargains in cash converters here, probably not enough local crackheads or something.

they sell megadrives for like £60 with 5 games or something, rip off merchants

sorry mate we got a cash genarators here also its a bit of a shitty town so when there is gear in there it doesnt shift for a long time i usually just keep my eye on whats in there for example i bought a yamaha su700 bout ten year ago and paid £699.99 there was one in there last year for £120

Yer i agree. If you can mix on belt drives then you'll have no problem on anything else.

But what about CD decks? Can you get away with cheapo ones? They're different 'cos they're digital i know, but are the cheapish cd ones equivalent in quatlity and that to cheapo vinyl ones? There's more to go wrong with surely.... if you get what i mean

I want at least one CD deck to complement my vinyl decks y'see. It's the money though innit, never gonna afford pioneers on top of my burgeoning vinyl habit.....

next question, is it worth getting a "standard" DJ mixer for going onto other peoples set ups?

for example using a brand which others do it's easy to jump in and grab an eq or set cues

i was gonna say, if you're on a tight budget then look for a second hand pair of vestax as the older models especially go for a lot less than a pair of 1210s. you'll be getting a lot more bang for yer buck than a pair of belt drives which you'll soon want rid of

On a cash converters related note, i picked up a 3 channel omnitronics mixer for 70 quid, took it home, hooked it up to realise upfader 3 was faulty, took the mixer back for a full refund, anyways went back in there not so long back to see the same mixer on sale again when i blatently said it was faulty!!!!!!!

Now thats a rip off!!!!!

My turntables are so crappy you couldn't even get infos about them by google. Im using these since forever and actually helped me improve my ear much!

dont bother with belts, eventually you'll have to convert to direct. so you might as well start with directs even if they're cheapo biz

does anyon know if there are "1210" style turntables available from another brand name?

you know like how people make SM58 style mics..
