The return of 90s Bristol trip hop legends

Posting in that thread about tunes you'd like to see remixed by certain artists reminded me that Portishead, Tricky, and Massive Attack (!) are all releasing new albums this year...
I'm hoping for some cross-genre collaboration with the more contemporary Bristol innovators such as Pinch, Joker, Appleblim, Peverelist, Forsaken, etc....
I just think it would work really well somehow, the combining of these different vibes, anyone agree?

Isn't quite a lot of dubstep already pretty trip-hoppy

Don't know if Tricky's still good since he dropped the weed to be honest, loved those tunes from the first couple of albums.

is that two-steppy smith & mighty tune that keeps turning up on bristolian dubstep mixes a new or old production?

yeah thats what i think, they've got similarities but the general feeling is a bit different don't you think? tricky's the one of those 3 i've never really listened to very much, one of those people whose tunes you always PLAN on checking...

I think he was definitely the most interesting of the three - Portishead stuck in their soundtracks and self-pity and Massive Attack being very good and quite mediocre on the same albums.

Tricky was good cause he was just plain out there at the time. Worth checking the Hell EP he did with Gravediggaz and the Nearly God album he did with Bjork, Terry Hall and Neneh Cherry amongst others. If he can get close to that level again, I'd be quite happy to hear it, but I'd rather hear him being Tricky than trying to do dubstep.

it's this one Smith & Mighty "B Line Fi Blow'"
think it's an old one

would definitely be interesting to see what the old bristolian sound would do with the new

I think with these new albums from old artists coming out (roni size included, though a different vein to the bristol 'soundsystem' sound of massive attack et al) and the great dubstep sound coming out of the city, Bristol is gonna have a really good year by the end of 2008 and become even more musically significant.

yep, i was reading in this week's issue of venue magazine that theres a shop in Japan that's specialised in Bristol music since 1999! so cool, and i think Bristol's 'sound' is gonna be recognised for its individuality even more after this year yeah...
