No posting any mixes from MAH show until the real player option expires from the BBC Radio 1 website.

Until then visit the site: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/maryannehobbs/
and click on the listen again option.
Need to get as many 'plays' on there as possible to ensure Radio1 recognise that her experimental show is getting enough hits for it to go forward.

Look at Mary Anne Hobbs's previous show posts if you are unsure of the procedure.

Peace!

tell me about it. all hail the socialist left. but if you give someone a virtual monopoly through phony lisencing laws etc you know the cost will be high and the quality will be low. if we really wanted innovation and freedom we should remove all barriers to entry and just let the best take home the gravy and rather than protecting to the death something that isnt that good...(see BBC, NHS, Royal Mail)

sure to be an amazing mix though ;) lol

MAH says on the main forum that the player is being revamped in 4 or 5weeks :).

I never understood why BBC can't just upload the mixes from the shows they have on their website. Granted for things like essential mix its not going to happen as some of those could be made into very good mixtapes on their own merit, but for things like this, as long as the artist gives consent (I'm sure tony would allow it, and it'll probably end up on here eventually) surely they could host the mixes, and guage interest from this?

For example i see annie mac's minimix has it's own podcast- just for the minimix, and while I understand that licensing longer mixes might be a problem, if there was a podcast of mixes from MAH show, i'd be a dedicated subscriber all day :). Note that there is no "experimental" podcast to boast of either...

Is this a possibility or would licensing still be an issue?

well, what people are talking about is not "protecting something that isn't good" (BBC or whatever), it's actually meant to show some respect to Mary Anne Hobbs for the work she has put into pushing dubstep on a large scale. by using the radio 1 player, they get stats on how many people are listening, thus ensuring that MAH gets to keep doing this great show that gets the music heard worldwide.

after that week's show is no longer on the radio 1 player, i have never seen any issues (from MAH or anyone else) with posting the links to the mixes. so this is not a step taken to prevent people from listening at all, rather one to ensure the continued existence of a show that has been important for dubstep as a whole.

make sense?

I think the honorable thing to do here is to download this mix if you wish to but also click the listen again button. I'm sure that counts as a hit don't it? I guess that evens things out then.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/maryannehobbs/

or 'listen again link':
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/radio1_a ... dio1/hobbs

and massive thanks to all who enjoyed this mix.
