UK Comedy Appreciation

Post by wensley » Tue May 13, 2008 4:23 pm

Loving my UK comedy at moment. Found a load of stuff I had never heard of before.

Nighty night is wicked. Anyone else seen this? diggin it?

Image
Borrowed it on DVD off a mate. Dark as fuck!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nathan Barely  'Peace and fuckin' Just seems to capture the whole pretentious 'cool' image thing perfectly, and slaughters its

ImageImage

Jam by Chris Morris. As dark as it gets  Doesn't touch Brasseye but still, fucking messed up.

ImageImage

Smack the pony. Didn't think I would ever say this but these women are funny :D ..

Image

And these too. Shame the main bird sold old with that crappy 'little miss jocelyn'. 3 non blondes -

Image

Saxondale is probably the best. Absolutely love this show. Coogan is a fucking genious!!! The crazy smack head emo kid character is quality.

Any other recommendations?

can't stand smack the pony or 3 non blondes. i find most women comedians are rubbish, the only one to really make me laugh is Tamsin Greig and she's not even a fucking comedian

i'm ploughing through a Black Books boxed set at the moment, but it seems like it peaked incredibly early

does anyone like Ideal? I'm in two minds about it, sometimes it's hilarious and sometimes it's fucking rubbish

The Thick of It is the best UK comedy for years.

I can't really get into ideal, but then I only see episodes intermittently.

Catterick started off really well, but didn't really sustain it..Father Ted still makes me laugh..Brasseye is genius..Spaced..I remember Big Train being pretty good, and what I saw of Time Trumpet was good.

Yeah I was expecting great things with this show. "Hand" made me laugh pretty hard though.

Green Wing and Spaced. Aaaaaaamazing!!

And black books is a funny one :| (as in odd...) its this general, not particularly amusing, standard comedy show complete with canned laughter, that every now and again breaks out some ABSOLOUTE gold!

The one with Jasper Carrot and the indian Family
Jesus christ lol

they really had all the boxes ticked in that one didn't they. the most embarassing thing i've ever fucking seen lol
The Thick of It is the best UK comedy for years.
Yeah, absolutely superb. I wasn't too sure about the two specials though, not really up to the standard of the series. Suppose it missed the nonce factor without Chris Langham.

The writers of Arrested Development are doing a US version of it with ianucci apparently.
And black books is a funny one Neutral (as in odd...) its this general, not particularly amusing, standard comedy show complete with canned laughter, that every now and again breaks out some ABSOLOUTE gold!
It's a shame because most of the first series is really solid stuff, but it slowly starts to degrade until there's literally not a single laugh in an episode

the mighty boosh...someone far smarter than me once put their finger on what i hate about it so much; there's funny stuff in there, but the character that fielding plays is such an insufferably preening tnuc that in any traditional comedy he'd meet his comeuppance and barratt's character (the inept underdog) would come out on top. that never fucking happens though, so it leaves a really bitter taste

for me the benchmark of comedy is and always will be Monty Python.

From the newer uk bits : IT crowd, and I am afraid I don't know any more.

someone mentioned office tho - isnt that from the us? still great fun tho.

the office was uk first, then it was developed in america. the uk one only ran 2 short seasons and a few specials.
