Anyone? Got properly into Explosions In The Sky and This Will Destroy You recently.

I'm expecting this thread to go down like genocide in a poverty stricken country.

You need to get on Stars of the Lid straight away

Also, Agalloch are an amazing band, more post-metal but just as haunting.

Anything that sounds fairly chilled is pretty good, in my eyes.

Got Jakob's Solace album on my computer which I should get into. Heard good things.

Isis & Pelican are rather good at the Post-Metal, but both are sort of... Well, Isis devolved into something a little too Tool-like for my tastes, and Pelican are getting caught up in the search for the riff...

jesu is good almost as post-metal pop. It's really weird...

stars of the lid are great but don't have much to do w/ post-rock

there's a sweet side project called The Dead Texan too

i used to listen to lots of post-rock, but don't feel the need to listen to it much these days except for stuff thats different like sigur ros or isis

surprised no one has mentioned Slint - Spiderland yet, although that is a bit harder than most of those mentioned.

Yeah, there's some nice Post-Rock elements to Sigur Ros stuff. Especially Seaglopur when the guitar comes in! Quality album is, Takk.

you should see em live. they're just as post rock as mogwai or eits. they do the quiet -> thunderously-loud thing real well

I've enjoyed what I've heard from Godspeed.

I think the Stars of the Lid recommendation was right on. We saw them here in SF recently. Experiencing their music live was incredibly moving. The Dead Texan was another good mention.

You're right, should've mentioned that. "Good Morning, Captain" is a beauty...

Slint goes without saying really amazing.

Isis and Pelican and Red Sparowes etc are bollocks. Better bands at doni Post-hardcore would be Hyatari or even Bossk

I had to sit through an entire Pelican gig just to hear High on Fire afterwards, terrible. Total posers IMO

Anything connected to Constellation records is obv. pure gold.

I dont see how Stars of the Lid are are any less Post Rock than GSY!BE are, doesnt really matter anyway.

Growing are worth checking out.

Moving away from Post Rock maybe, Shellac, Red House Painters, Galaxy 500, Low are all amazing.

Post-Black Metal is some of the most moving and strangley uplifting music of the last decade, bands worth checking:

Nyktalgia, Alcest, Agalloch, Ulver, Forgotten Woods, Wolves in the throne room

I've always hated these terms / "genres".... like post-rock, or fuckin idm (gack!), but I do get the inferences or references to the post-rock schtick. And i do, or HAVE listened to alot of the bands mentioned in this thread. In the end, its just critic, or music journo squabble innit? Kind of like dubstep.

heh.

I was a big Gastr Del Sol fan, Brise-Glace, et all. Older, eclectic noise affiliated labels like Soleilmoon Recordings from Portland, Oregon, have put out huge back catalogues of projects or bands over the past 20 years that i'm sure have more than influenced alot of the stuff mentioned here - Halfler Trio, Illusion of Safety, Rapoon, Legendary Pink Dots, Zoviet France, Muslimgauze... and that's just stuff you may have heard of. You might want to check Soleilmoon for some background here. Good stuff.

Bands like Cerberus Shoal come to mind. Storm and Stress . Even Joan of Arc, for the "emo" related stuff heh. Thrill Jockey Records here and there. A MINOR FOREST from SF back in the day. * Big mention to the mon like Bill Laswell here too.* Michael Gira / Young God Records anyone? The fuckin SWANS! Angels of Light....

or YOUNG GODS themselves. huh huh?

Another old label that you could reference here to some degree is some of the Vinyl Communications stuff - noise, hardcore & onwards. Vinyl Communications put out everything from hardcore punk, to some early american breakcore like Lesser, Bombardier, Kid606. Also bands like Skull Flower. Its labels like this, or say.. early Kranky Records where alot of the sounds began to crossover from general indie/punk to more diverse electronic stuff. Not directly post-rock, but a good reference to how easy it is to move between said influences.

I like alot of the current metal related stuff mentioned so far as well.
