cheap beer works surprisingly well also.. on cd's.

it has a lot to do with the fact that the data is stored inside the cd, so scratches can be buffed off the protective coating, but being that a scratch in vinyl is a scratch in the data itself, id assume that data is lost for ever, being that its physically removed or at very best, unreadable.

Licking cds also works, if you're in the car and it won't play - lick it and chuck it back in the player. Works almost every time!

i guess it depends how deep the scratches are. Are you talking about crackle or proper full on scratches going over the grooves?

You must have a fetish for mutilating vinyl right? Can just see a thread coming up about how to glue them back together or something :) :P

it only works on vinyl that's less than 15 years old though.

Come on now, is this topic for real? Of course you can't remove scratches from vinyl!

To effectively clean, use ethanol or lighter fluid (or a similar liquid), wiping in the direction of the groove and never across.

I've found the Rodec Brush also helps remove much of the dust that settles within the grooves using static to attract it to the brush.

I find the best way is to buy the vinyl again, secretly swap them, then when you go to get the vinyl out, hey presto, the scratch has magically dissapeared.

This works better if you have a split personality or sleep walk/buy.
