Drum & Bass, death of

is drum n bass dead? i gotta say i fuckin love most of the mainstream dnb from before like 2006 [to a certain extent - Drumsound and Bassline Smith took the formula too far i think..]
but i've heard very few good tunes in 2008 so far
so what can people recommend that's come out in 08?
i'm likin:
- Influx UK - Show 'em what you got [this hasn't actually come out yet, and i know it's a bit ..gay..]
- Lomax and Focus - 5 weeks [flipside to Twelve by Zinc]
- and clipz is just A GENIUS so i gotta say ugly/offline
so far disappointed by what i've heard of the calibre album
i'm worried that i'm gona get hated on for liking jump up..
edit: also
http://www.myspace.com/THEMISTA check No Matter What, it's like some sort of mad Happy Hardcore/DNB crossover - what a legend. apparently it was pretty big in the clubs for a couple of months

Nothing wrong with liking Jump Up, its dancefloor friendly in my eyes.
I dont think D&B is dead though, theres plenty of quality releases that are out there just not on the big labels like Hospital, who havent really done it for me since "Tough Guys Dont Dance" was released. I like what Shogun have been knocking out lately though, some killer tracks from Icicle and Alix Perez. Saying that though Ive shifted alot of attention from Jump Up tunes to more laid back liquid style tracks, due to the poor releases from major Jump Up labels.

This track makes me wet myself, proper rolling tune !

Ive also noticed far more minimal style D&B tracks knocking about, perhaps D&B is going get stripped down to its basics, just rolling beats !
And I cant forget the best release in my eyes so far this year, Logistics "Reality Checkpoint", the album is immense.

seriously, if you are having doubts about dnb, then you are listening to the wrong styles, you need to check out the sect, proket, limewax, dylan, current value, noisia, catacomb, misanthrop, i could go on and on, trust me these guys are smashing it

Very evil kind of music I see. I wouldn't reccomend these artists only though, there is some liquid that is killing it at the moment, like Atlantic Connection and Alix Perez. I reccomend Icicle, very leftfield, probably the best producer for sub-low sounding riddem.

ill check them out, i mostly like my dnb to be seriously filthy, the dark side of dnb, (renegade hardware, freak etc) is taking over tho. i really cant listen to the accelerated culture "jump up" side of things any more, and havent for quite some time

nice one guys this is all good
gotta say i really rate chase and status they kill dancefloors without just making shit music - and yeah you're right about Brazil i forgot that one was new! hopeful about their album [and INDIAN DUB IS ON IT!]
and Noisia are something special i reckon my mate will is their biggest fan in the world
not really feelin technical itch, limewax, dylan, evol intent etc etc though they have just taken the amen break rinsage a bit too far IMO [although it would be maaad sick if there were just a couple of EPs of it or something]
anyway yeah i'll check out the new shogun stuff and logistics' album although i've always seen logistics as a bellend so my opinion is already swayed..
and liquid.. it sounds lovely but there's just never anything new in it - get a few lovely samples and make a nice beat, put them together, get some nice chords going and repeat repeat repeat..
and OH MY DAYS SPOR IS SICK [check myspace tunes and Dust Falls off the new EP]. what am i chattin about "dnb is dead" i was completely wrong - you just gotta look in the right places!
