So i got a new laptop and lost all my old tracks - one on my myspace called liquid massacre which id love to re-do now, polish it up a bit but i've lost all the original files. I've been using reason 3 for ages and dont get me wrong you can make some good sounds with reason 3.
Today i got myself reason 4 and a copy of ableton 7 - Both of which are very new to me, the edit window in reason 4 im not too keen on but im sure i'll get used to it, the Thor synth looks tasty mind you.
Ableton looks fucking amazing, instead of just acting the tnuc n trying to do it all myself i actually did a few of the tutorials and its saved so much fucking about.
Any of yous using these 2 as a combo to make tunes?
No other point in this post really apart from the old "wee boy with a new shiny red bike who wants to show the street" syndrome.

im using R4 and ab7, been on R4 for bout 6 months and love it. your right Thor is very tasty indeed. had ab7 for just over a month or so. seeing as im quite the novice i bought a copy of music tech focus, a one off issue dedicated to ableton 7, and also computer music special reason 4 guide, both of these are helping no end. i havent had any previous versions of ableton, but i must say, the on board tutorials are very good.
the only problem ive had so far is cpu usage in rewire mode, i like layering lots of drums, but cant get too complex a track going in rewire, im also using izotope ozone and antares filter, its killing cpu

Hey look at that, it's my thread!
Yesterday I hooked up Ableton and Reason, made some first steps and decided to stick with Ableton because there is no alternative when it comes to live performance (that's why they call it Ableton Live, I guess). Now I totally love Thor and Scream and It would make me very sad if I had to drop Reason.
My Problem is simple, it's solution is complex I guess: When I create a midi track and send the actions to Thor, it works fine, but there is no way I can map 'Knob A' to Reason's 'Function B' and get an automation record in Ableton. How stupid is that?
I need some sort of mapping window where I can tell Ableton where to map Reason's functions. That's the reason there is no automatisensation record because it doesn't even recognize me modding the mod wheel. Someone can help?

I guess your problem lies in Ableton's limit to automating knobs. That's the only thing I hate about Ableton.
It gives you access to 128 parameters only. And removing that limit has been a massively requested feature for a long time now. I don't know why Ableton developers have done nothing about this.
I don't know if rewire automation works the same way vst automation does, so you'd better check the Ableton forums for more info. It's a great forum.

I'm currently using Ableton, Reason, and Fl Studios. CPU overload has a been a problem for me so I don't even bother rewiring any of these together. It's all about making drums in Fruity loops, since I find the sequencer is really easy to use. Then making whatever sounds I need in either Reason or Fruity, and bouncing it into Ableton. As for VSTs I host them in fruity just because it doesn't kill as much CPU as Ableton. Also, I find doing this helps the work flow as you won't be confined to one DAW, as doing this would be really messy and overload that one program.

yea, ive not been using rewire much lately. been bouncing parts into ableton aswell, cpu is fine like that, but in rewire mode its just rediculous. my pc is ok too, but think im going to build a new one soon, some really good motherboard deals online. going back to college in a couple of months to do MC DST course so im going to need a bit more grunt from pc anyway
