burial review on national public radio (NPR)

this is unexepected as traditionally, npr is fairly conservative, mostly folky radio. it's the US equivalent of BBC radio, as its funded by our tax dollars. i guess its a sign of good things that they'd put this up as a song of the day. maybe we'll see more sub related music on there soon.

yeah, agreed on the name thing, but other than that its encouraging to see our public radio get behind underground independant music. most of what they play on there is very good, but its just not pushing boundaries, like let say radio 1 does.
on the other side, they're an fm channel broadcasting in every city and state in this country, so, their audience is probably over 200 million, which should fair well for mr. burial.

NPR... The only radio station I would listen to when I listened to radio in that form. I started listening to npr at 8ish I remember having this bad feeling when I was a child that the u.s. wasn't all they were telling me.I loved the classical music npr played and to then hear the bbc news at that age affected me.When I was growing up I only heard about this president this country and its greatness. bullshit is a better word but I wont get started on that. anyway. who cares about me.
Its great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to see that dubstep or great sounds are still being played on npr. and who better to represent them.
Peace B

It's hard to make a living from music, he obviously has a side-line in funeral arrangements.

same here. my parents always had npr on in the mornings and weekends growing up. i've kind of followed from their lead, and listen to it in the morning now too. still one of the best sources of news in this country.

Found what you wrote here very interesting, I have never watched american news other than a bit of CNN and when i was in the US i never watched TV other than for 20 minutes in a Motel once and i couldn't stand the amount of adverts coming on every 5 minutes so i had to switch off. Do you feel that the American broadcast news paints a very different picture even from what the BBC will report? I read the New York Times on many an occasion and found them to be very anti on the War on Terror and nearly every other page had at least one story to do with another soldier or innocent dying in Iraq or Afghanistan. Does the press and the storys it reports change very dramtically from state to state in your opinion?

the news content when npr goes nationwide isn't local; meaning the npr broadcast in lets say texas, doesnt have texan based news.
npr is run out of washington dc, and their news division is there, so all the news tends to be main headlines, and stories of national interest, with some great interviews. they've always been careful about bias of any kind so it's not left or right or conservative or liberal. usually its right in the middle, which is its best success. cnn, msnbc and all of the other channels have corporate interests involved, so there's always a bias on their main stories.
nbc/msnbc is owned by general electric, which has one of the biggest military contracts in america, for planes, tanks, ships, you name it.

to say they dont have a bias isn't really all that true. i mean for the most part npr is definitely leaning toward the liberal side of things. i don't really think that can be argued.
in minnesota we've got mpr which is basically the same as npr, but local. we also have The Current which is a pretty big rarity in the states as its a state run music station. the dj's are pretty much given free reign over what they play and while there isn't as much varitey as id like to see it's still leaps better then any commercial radio availible. They've also played a bit of Burial. The tend to lean toward the indie rock side of things with the occasional bit of local hip hop (rhyme sayers) thrown in. The also have a dj slot on friday nights, but it's a bit of a joke as it's never live and it's only 30 mins long. But I honestly don't know if there's anything else like it in the country as far as I'm aware.
check it out sometime:
