kyushu jangara is the best (gamushara is a VERY close second). if you've only got time for one, make sure it's that one. there's one in harajuku.

Was in both those places, and Osaka, in Nov. Wicked.

Could have seen Goth trad 3 times if I so wished, check his myspace and those of his friends. There's English language time out type magazine in the foreign language book shop, plus a website or two.

Drinks are expensive in Japanese clubs, considering sneaking in a bottle of spirits, I don't recall being searched by anyone.

Do you know where you are staying? Stay here:
http://www.hostelbookers.com/hostels/japan/kyoto/17292/

And here:
http://kshouse.jp/tokyo-e/facilities/index.html

Do it! Book ahead. And makes sure you book for all the days you need or otherwise you'll spend a whole day checking in somewhere else, somewhere rubbish where you won't sleep properly.

Def do Kyoto on a bike, and phone ahead to reserve one for all the days you are there or others in the hostel will nick em. Serious. You want a bike every day you are in Kyoto.

If you like rock music too, maybe check some of the livehouses.

Japan is brillllliant

enjoy
