Hi all,

recently got some new monitors, stanton atm6's (which are KRK rp6's in disguise but cheaper for those who dont know)

anyway, ive connected them to my Behringer DJX700 mixer with rca cables. The mixer only has rca output, which is shit i know. the monitors have rca, trs and xlr inputs.

My problem is that:
a) im getting some humming coming from the monitors (the right one far more than the left for some reason)

and b) when the volume level coming from one of the turntables is right down on the mixer but with the tune still playing you can hear the beat of the tune being hissed by the monitor. (i hope that makes sense).

im not sure if this is a problem with the mixer the monitors or the cables, the cables are only cheap bog standard rca to rca so i have white rca going to left monitor and red to right.

does anyone have any idea what is causing these problems and what i could do to solve them as it is highly annoying.

try lowering the volume of your monitors and upping the volume on your mixer. i had similar problems between my soundcard/mixer/laptop/monitors caused by general power interference.

tried this, doesnt really help all that much. id rather solve the problem then try and hide it though if you know what i mean, cheers for the suggestion though.

To avoid ground loops try and have all the items connected to the same mains circuit. Unless that's likely to overload your outlets obv.

Also to avoid interference try to have audio cables running at right angles to power cables if they cross over - i.e. not parallel to each other.

Most RCA cables are pretty flimsy and badly shielded it has to be said. The other thing is maybe your mixer is causing this and you just never noticed before?

Ill try that, cheers. i think running the rca's perpendicular to the power cables could be tricky but ill try. My monitors are running on european power cables, i.e no earth, do you think this could also be causing some of the problem? they are only standard kettle leads so i could change them.
