You've been listening to it for a minute or two, and its said most of what it's going to say, but it doesnt give away too much all at once. It changes subtly, and keeps you interested, but you dont mind if it gets too samey, because you'd be comfortable living in it forever, and when it's over, you'll probably listen to it again.

whats your definition of a good tune?

my idea of a good tune is when a small amount of blood leaks from every orifice from a 30hz bassline that creates a small earthquake in my room.....i have yet to find this tune.

one that is versatile...
and not just that it can played in a variety of settings or mixes,
but one that seems to take on different meanings depending on the tune that gets played before it, the tune that gets played after it, or a different meaning at any given moment.
a tune that forces you to hear it in a new way every time you play it.

I would Have to agree with both these Comments, A tune that keeps you Interested By subtly Making your Ears Bleed,
and a Bassline that Simultaniously makes you lose control Of your Bowel's... But feels so Good That you Just want to hear it Again.

Myself and Trypto are currently in the Lab. working on this to be Released on the 'U.S Govt Counter Terrorist' Label this Summer...

one that I can never play all lthe way though the first time. A tune that I need to rewind to the beginning at least 2/3 times every time I put it on.

One that makes me dance in my car even tho I am risking my life and the lives of everbody else around me.

A tune that just gives you a great vibe along the lines of... 'this tune is FUCKING RUDE!!!'

It has to give me goose pimples.

It must have some wobble (even if a subtle amount just to add movement)

Fast moving drums (my preference)

For me, a good tune is simply one that I can remember. If I can still remember how it goes when I've listened to a hundred other tunes after it, then it's good. If I can wake up the next morning and remember how it goes, then it's good.

If I can't remember a tune, I think it's a dirty turd and I don't care how long somebody spent tweaking the bass line or riddims.

well obviously we all no when a tune is good because we like it

to be a good track it has to be on a 500 copy war release

its triggers feelings and emotions within you.

for example a kode 9 tune is likely to make you feel things you wouldn't necessarily feel listening to a rusko tune, and vica versa. its not that one is better than the other - they just make you feel different things and people prefer certain feelings to others.

good music = emotions

you're browsing the whole digital tunes catalog, have listened to a few hundreds releases and instinctively click the "add to basket" button.

Yeah, I a good tune is one that you can connect memories to, and the combination makes you feel something powerful.

Does not matter one but about engineering or quality of sound. The tune is the tune.

Some of my favourite moments in music history have been badly rendered, low grade gritty recordings. All good.

A good tune needs to sound like it is made by a person with feelings.

A good tune= everything fits in that tune and you can't imagine adding anything or taking away anything or moving anything without disrupting that tune. It has its own identity as a tune if you know what I mean. I don't mean that it sounds perfect and clinical, it can sound rough as fuck if that's what the tune as a whole works as.

I like it in dance music when you have a blend of darkness/moodiness (i.e. a dark bassline) and a more euphoric vibe so you get this sort of melancholy uplifting effect.

Also when it comes to dance music especially, a strong rhythmic backbone- i.e. it has to make you want to move. I've noticed this in my own production recently- a lot of the time I quite like the musical ideas but the rhythm is too loose or vague and there's no real thrust to it.

Ultimately though, a great tune is something which makes me feel a strong emotional response to it- you get tunes that are so dark and full of suspense and atmosphere that you feel blown away by them, and tunes that are full of soul and euphoria and you get a chill or you just feel happy about the world.

That's basically what I'd like to make, have never made anything even approaching that effect though really.

"Archangel" by Burial, pretty much.

Repetitive as hell, but transcends the negativity assocated with that.

...makes me jump around hyper with a big fat bass face.....

...makes me wear my hoodie up & walk through the place buzzing off which ever mood I'm in...
