shit i just clocked this thread after making one myself lolol.
so who saw any of this tonight? i was hearing so much dubstep in the backing tracks i had to rewind to check...
shitloads of burial, silkie even. few others but i cant remember of the top of my head...
probably available to watch online on the channel 4 website....
mostly about the problems and solutions of facing gun and knife crime and the change in youth culture of recent times...
slightly more constructive then past shows, less on glorifying or misleading the situation and more on discussing solutions and tackling root problems...
..but ye, how does everyone feel about dubstep being used in these kind of programmes?
its a bit of a mixed reaction for me, because it shows recognition and is gd for artists but its a touchy issue and it CAN send a wrong message, cos dubstep has NOTHING to do with this culture, its just music like any other...
that said some of the burial tracks WERE used in a good context and effectively to enhance those segments.
thing is ye, if u live in or near any "ends" in london or any of the cities mentioned u WILL be able to relate a bit. There are people who are full in and live that life whilst others make just brief contact to it, but all of those in that spectrum sumwer can relate so u can kinda understand the situation...
i think its harsh tho that the majority of the public, who dont have any kind of contact to this part of social culture are SO quick to decifer it cynically and point the finger and shove out the blame...
its easy to say things about them and say they are all just stnuc who dont wanna help themselves, and that may even be true for some of them, but i dnt think thats fair on the situation at hand and is quite ignorant to just put it down to that.

i dont understand why ur all hyping this up, obviously dubstep is felt by a greater fan base then just white 20 somethings who enjoy pleasant walks in the park...
i sometimes get the impression people are looking to the attendances of DMZ and FWD to get an impression of the musics following when u got to remember that alot more goes on behind the scenes then u are all aware of

interested to know how they source the music used in these type things myself.
i mean was silkie aware one of his beats was gonna be used in this way?
"all publicity is good publicity" sure
but i mean was it one of the tracks from deep medi? as i cant see Mala being particularly down with the association of violence.

i don't see how it's associating the music with violence though? i mean if they played burial on televised coverage of the RHS flower show would people be whinging about how they're associating dubstep with the dark underworld of flower shows?
