Good soft synths for making drums sounds?

I'm not much for samples, so any advice on any good FM synths for drums?
I'm using Ableton as my DAW and haven't been satisfied with any of the sounds on that (at least with Impulse, haven't really gave the samples on there much consideration). Anything helps, thanks again.

There's a fair few on KVR at the moment. The only one I've really used is Zapkit and FM7 (which does great hats/snares but is a bastard for more intricate sounds). Good luck and if you manage to synthesize some good sounds post the results.

Drumatic (Drummatic?) is one. but it pretty much only makes 808 type sounds. Oops it's not FM, but it is a drum synth.

The Sonic Charge µTonic is my favourite drum synth since years:

Also FLStudio has a drum synth called... Drum Synth.

For your bog standard 909 / 808 business, get rebirth, it's free these days and you can rewire it easily into ableton. And then there's the 303s which are always fun.

The Waldorf Edition includes a drum synth VST called Attack. I bought it and am fooling around with it.

seconded. one of the few things that i can honestly say was worth the money.
if you know how to design the sounds right, operator in ableton can make good drum sounds too.

I would have to agree... µTonic is the shiz... The best software drum synth IMHO. I think the guy who created it use to code for Propellerheads...

Frequatic is an FM drum synth. I find FM drums fun but a bit restrictive, it's often best to layer them with samples.

Also, i use Massive for drums. But don't use it unless you have a good deal of time...

you don't even really need to use an fm synth...
anything with basic osc [sine and noise and tri etc] and amp envs would do i think! they may sound kinda dated...

albino3 has some nice snares with some sick verb sounds on them.
