What are your thoughts on this?

I've seen a bunch of different thoughts on the subject.

Do you think it's good or bad?

there are some good tunes coming out but i can't help but (rather cynically) think that some of them are just jumping on the bandwagon of the "new thing", in order to seem up to date with the popular thing at the moment, and to make a bit of cash.

what does it matter if the quality is high? i dont care who is making it if the music is good. let the music speak, if the tune is fresh then thats all that should matter.

It doesnt matter. DnB, dubstep its all words to attempt to describe a certain style of music. Each style has its own features but there is epic music no matter what genre you are looking at. Anyone who gets hung up on the dubstep vs dnb thing is just gonna get left in the dust.

Exactly my thoughts, I know with the dnb producer element, production standard is quiet high but have heard back n fourths between quality of a tunes engineering and then tune vibes which make the good tracks.

and also
breakage is a don.
especially for the latter him is a pure bass man... way before he even thought of doin dubstep..

Digital 0 the original dubzilla soldier and the man responsible for so many dub bass heavy tunes of the last 15 yrs started with some dubstep which wasn't good at all IMO and the nhe did "Dubstation X" which I really dig.

Fracture's "Phonecall" was a killer tune IMO and totally dnb beats-led

SP:MC is such a talented person anyway, the Tempa release was great, at least one half of it, he already has been making dnb beats w/Verse & Jubei anyway.

am I missing somebody else? probably do but the ones above make me proud cause regardless the genre they do really well.

benny page - swagger is a sick tune.

If they make good tunes, who cares if they make dnb too? just shows versitility imo...

.. and the debate continues. *sigh* meh, it ALL comes from the same place, RIGHT? Of course there's no discreditng a good tune based on the background of an artists' or producers' resume.

IF.. you know your shit, you own some crucial jungle/dnb records as well. And hopefully you're creative enough to showcase and explore all aspects of the *hardcore continuum* with your new found enthusiasm for dubstep, et all. Atleast if I'm listening.

Don't be ignorant.

If they were interesting dnb producers in the first place, ie martyn and breakage then i think its a good thing. However quite a few of the ex dnb guys are dangerously close to making they're own dark as fuck, soulless, super slick sub genre imo.

I dont give a fuck if a run of the mill dnb producer turns to dubstep to make beats !! ... u never know, those beats could end up being the best thing since sliced bread.

IDM / Micro house / Minimal tech / dub / dancehall / techno ..... I love all these genres .... and even some dnb

all I wanna hear is quality music
